By studying her mothers approach to creating clothes, Yana caught the first glimpse of her future career in the fashion industry. By age 5, I knew I was to become a fashion designer, says the 22 year-old designer of Yana K.
Relocating to the United States at the age of 11, Yana took on the task of learning English and finishing her education. In 2003, just after finishing high school, having no formal training or experience owning a business, she used her family based knowledge and opened her first Yana K boutique in Los Angeles, California.
Yana has many fashion icons including Coco Chanel, Stella McCartney, and Russian Alexander Vasilier. However, Yanas main inspiration is created every season by people and their own unique personalities. I love to play with fabrics and styles. I want every customer to really think about what they are wearing, says Yana.
Today, Yanas vintage-inspired designs are growing in popularity and have an ever-increasing following. Yana has seven different collections and all of her pieces are meticulously made in her downtown Los Angeles design house. Currently, the Yana K line is carried in many retail stores across the U.S., among them are Astoria, Bill Hallman, Deetour, Flirt, Habit, H Lorenzo, Jezabel, Luxe, Mia Bella, Oooh La La, Planet Blue, Rouge, Twist, W Couture, Wish List and many more.
