With more than just Top 40-ready production and catchy hooks to his name, rapper/producer RIP (Joshua Mallett) founder and CEO of RIP Records delivers a restorative hope of what a true rap artist envelops in the seemingly repetitive & exhausted world of Hip-Hop today. Emerging from the Midwest with an unprecedented style and an assuredness for success, RIP's enthusiasm and promotional efforts for Chicago HipHop have already earned him a "Platinum Plaque" from Atlantic Records early on in his career. As founder and creative director of the first ever official Twista fan site twista.net, RIP's talents and determination paved the way for the multi talented craftsman. As Chicago's own B96.3 WBBM-FM's music director Erik Bradley puts it, Rip is: "Driven, Ambitious, Hard working, Grass Roots & Savvy".
After teaming up with fellow recording artist Alex ("P.R.") Copo and forming his Independent label in 2000, "Coming Up in the Game" was released on RIP Records in 2003. The underground success of the self produced and recorded album earned him a spot on numerous stages alongside multi-platinum recording artists such as: The Ying Yang Twins, Chingy, Twista, Flo Rida, Bizzy Bone, Do or Die, DJ Felli Fel and Public Announcement on stages throughout the Midwest and as far as Cancun, Mexico. Following the success of his debut album, RIP Records released "The Midwest ReMixtape vol. 1" in 2005, and "The Midwest ReMixtape vol. 2" in 2006, which generated over 60,000 downloads worldwide.
RIP's efforts did not go unnoticed as he soon after wrote and produced songs used by the Chicago Bulls, and the "Walk it Out â€" Super Bowl Remix" which aired alongside fellow Chicago-based artists Kanye West and Common, on B96.3 preempting the Chicago Bears succession to the 2007 Super Bowl. Later that year, the release party for his fourth self-produced effort, "Local Celebrity" was hosted by Midwest disc jockey legend, Mike Love. By emanating a story full of context and significance RIP solidifies his presence & longevity in the hip-hop scene.
With close to a decade of writing, producing, and performing behind him, the self proclaimed "Ill State Representer" has no plans of departing the scene any time soon. RIP's first solo album is scheduled to release in late 2008. RIP undeniably has the drive, talent and mass appeal to make him an indisputable success and that is what he is here to do...
