MJFF 2010 APRA Composer Commission
Following the success of the 2006, '07, ‘08 and '09 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Commissions, which resulted in the creation of extraordinary new works by Jex Saarelaht, Colin Hopkins, Erik Griswold, and Ren Walters, the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival is now calling for submissions for the 2010 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival Commission.
The Commission provides $1000 to a composer to write an extended work for an ensemble (between 5 and 10 piece) of his or her choice and also provides rehearsal and performance fees for ensemble players. The commissioned work will be presented at the 2010 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival on April 23. Interested parties are asked to provide a brief description of their proposal and a biography on one A4 page (font size 12 pt minimum). This should be emailed to [email protected]. Audio support material is also welcome (1 CD) and should be sent to:

The Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival was formed to celebrate Melbourne’s burgeoning creative jazz scene. Building on the unprecedented success of the 2005-09 festivals, we are once again ready to party with ten days and nights of original music featuring Melbourne’s most celebrated improvisers plus interstate guests. Come and hear some of the musicians that give Melbourne the right to claim to be the jazz capital of the southern hemisphere.
Thanks always to our sponsors Big Trousers, APRA, Federation Square, Extempore, Victoria University and Brolly, and our partners Melbourne Jazz Co-op and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
