About Me

Born’s solo debut 'At The End Of The Day ...' was recorded in 2005, supported by Dutch producer Gordon Groothedde and presented at the Lowlands festival in Holland. It delivered him the coveted Essent Award 2005 and received mere praising reviews: ... an amazing debut. Born fascinates, stirs, astounds and convinces ...(Oor) ... one could not wish for a better debut ... (Fret) ... true top quality ... (Live XS) ... with 'At The End Of The Day ...' Born convinces not only as a songwriter, but also as a singer ... (Plato Mania) After the release of the album in the Benelux, Born starts to tour with his band and plays various festivals, clubs and supports artists such as Heather Nova, Thomas Dybdahl and Dutch top act Racoon. From February 2006 onwards, he goes on tour in Europe with the Simple Minds. He joins them for 20 shows en 5 countries: The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France. Early 2007 he records and releases the duet 'It 'Hurts' with American based artist Beth Hart. In August 2007 Born takes his first step in the preparation of his new album. Together with arranger/bass player Eric van der Westen, he seeks for the musical borders of his new material. The songs are arranged for a 9 piece band with various backgrounds: alternative, jazz, improvisation, new classical and more. Born has literally sucked music in with his mother's milk. Father Stuyven was a professional violin player. He took his family from Belgium to Holland, where he joined one of the leading Dutch orchestra's. In 's-Hertogenbosch, Holland, Born was born. However, his first musical soul mate he found in Belgium. Together with nephew Daan Stuyven, the man behind Belgium pop acts like Dead Man Ray, Born discovered the guitar. In that period Born saw himself mainly as a guitar player. In his young years he discovered the Blues. As a teenager he had remarkable heroes, like JJ Cale and the Dire Straits, to name just a few. Meanwhile he played in a number of bands. His first solid spot he found in Thunderin' Hearts, a rock band that found their inspiration in the area between John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen. In the Hearts Born was able to develop himself as songwriter and front man of a band. And with remarkable results: they won various contests, signed a record deal and toured extensively. The band toured from the US to Kazakhstan. After years of success the band ended. Born started his search in a new musical area and created his new band -Enos, a dark and explosive rock band. After the release of the gloomy debut Tremolo the band toured extensively and supported acts like Queens Of The Stone Age and Soulwax. The period after Enos gave Born time to go back to basics. An enormous pile of tapes was waiting - for years he recorded faithfully his musical ideas on these tapes. The time was here to go through this material and he select the tunes for his debut album, At The End Of The Day … In 2004 Born put his songs under care of a number of special and high profile musicians. A process without much fuss, just record the basics with guitar, piano, drums and bass - and of course that voice that will take you by surprise. Mixing engineer Brad Gilderman, who works from his private studio The Little Bigroom in Los Angeles, put his distinctive stamp on the album. Beside several Grammy Nominations, Brad worked with artists like J.C. Mellencamp, Eric Clapton and Madonna.
