The band that would become the Cherrypops was born out of a love for glitter, glamour, and punk rock. There were two unifying forces that brought the band together right from the beginning: Nikki Sixx and the Ramones.
Brett and Jackie put the band together with a crazy little drummer named Frankie and started writing in Brett’s basement. With enough songs to play a full set, the band, called Cherrypop Valentine, booked their first show at the legendary Milwaukee venue TA Verns. One week before the show, TA Verns closed and the show was cancelled. Not letting this get in their way, the band, now with second guitarist Johnny, forged ahead and…then Frankie quit.
Finally finding a drummer in the form of a guy named Taj, CPV got the opening slot for the killer NYC band D Generation. The audience went crazy for us and…Taj got fired.
In the club that night was a good friend of the band who was soon coaxed to join as their first “real†drummer. Tommy fit in so well that nothing could stop them.
Over time, CPV, now called “The Cherrypops†played numerous shows and steadily built their following around the area. Just when things seemed to be going just the way they wanted them to… Tommy quit the band.
As devastating as that was, the band pushed on aided by their great friend Chez filling in on drums until a permanent member could be found. Replacing Tommy was no small feat and a year went by with no one on the horizon. And then Barry happened.
Barry, who the band knew for years, was mentioned as a possible drummer. The three guys new Barry was an amazing drummer but he came from a decidedly “heavier†musical background. Barry said he was interested, and after one jam session they all knew that this was it. He was their guy.
The Cherrypops glamour heavy pop-punk sound can go nowhere but up. See one show and you’ll be hooked. See them again and you’ll think that they’re the greatest band you’ve seen since Nikki Sixx and Joey Ramone stepped onstage to change your life.
