Princy (of Phreekz Uv Naychur) spent his childhood in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada (now permanently residing on the Gold Coast, Australia). An environmental scientist by profession, Princy always had a passion for rap music and production, and in 1988, he formed his first rap group along with childhood friend, Lowdown, and their fathers' private collection of records. Growing up in suburban Toronto in the eighties, Princy found comfort in the rap scene, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.
Aware that parents and universities had not nurtured rappers, he pushed his music career aside and enrolled in an environmental science program at the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada). However, during those years previous as a duo (and sometimes trio with member, Diesel) called Phreekz Uv Naychur (pronounced Freaks Of Nature), they pushed their luck and recorded with accredited Toronto-based producers, Derek Brin (Dream Warriors, Maestro) and S Luv a.k.a Sheldon Moore (Pocket Dwellers, Busta Rhymes, Big PUN). As 14-year olds, they placed 6th at Canada's "YTV Achievement Awards" behind the 1st-place winners, the Barenaked Ladies in 1990. By the summer of 1994, they were their hometown's unofficial best-kept secret sparking major label interest along with the help of their former manager, Marvin Mitchell, with Sony Music Canada, EMI, MCA, and Virgin. However, academia got in the way by the fall of 1994 and any potential future in the rap industry was ultimately pushed aside.
As a Gold Coast-based Canadian and solo rapper/producer in 2008, Princy has signed to Australian independent on-line label, Sound Revolution. He says, "This music can’t be just a hobby for me anymore. There was too much good material here swept under the rug. I know that people wanted to hear this. I've never had the slightest doubt."
