Life is an hourglass

About Me

Only four classes left until I graduate from the University of Washington, yay! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...finally. Then it's back to Minnesota in June 2008 where I'll be nannying for my sister and her husband while attending grad school for my Master of Arts in Teaching. For now, here are some random thoughts for your reading enjoyment. Saving money is nearly impossible for a college student. My personal smoothie concoctions are yummy. Green is my favorite color. Our environment is priceless. Sushi is not as bad as a lot of people say it is; it is actually quite tasty. I think candles are romantic. Chase your dreams. A good book, a blanket, and a cup of hot cocoa are delightful on a rainy day. I would rather have a sapphire than a diamond. My cat is the softest cat ever (and he has pretty eyes). More people should utilize the public library as well as public transportation. Sleeping is definitely not overrated. Each day provides an opportunity for learning. Save Tibet. Nothing can compare to a mother's hug. True friends are forever. Smile, but remember to brush and floss your teeth.Things I want to do before I die: take a ride in a hot air balloon, live/teach in a foreign country, brew my own beer, visit Nepal and Mount Everest, get a hot stone massage, eat some real New York pizza (did it on 05.22.07!), knit a scarf, run a marathon (maybe), help others, travel through Italy with my mom, learn to like coffee, go skydiving, have a family (or at least a loving husband!), spend a week winery-hopping in Napa Valley, hold a newborn baby (I will get to do this in November 2007 when I become an auntie!), become less materialistic, go on a zip-line tour through the canopy of the Costa Rican rainforest. My Interests

Life in general, preserving the environment and teaching others how to do so as well, thunderstorms, fireworks, vodka tonics, helping others, listening to good music, exploring new places, hot air balloons, educating myself, getting lost in the woods, watching the art of glass blowing, picnics at the park, the sunrise, BBQs, riding my bike, beer and wine tasting, sailing, manicures, learning about life, napping in green grass, roller blading, the beach, stargazing, petting my cat to lower my blood pressure, hiking in the mountains, walking on a sandy beach, documentaries, a tall glass of ice water, photography, going to the zoo, reading on a rainy day, good food, National Public Radio and A Prairie Home Companion (the radio show), appreciating everything beautiful that surrounds me...

I'd like to meet:

My Grandpa Carl, Kirby Puckett, Donald Trump, Al Franken, Bill Maher, Keller Williams, Tyra Banks, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, Gandhi. People I have already met: Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Melinda Doolittle, Haley Scarnato, Chris Sligh, Gina Glocksen, Sanjaya Malakar, Daunte Culpepper, HM (code name, sorry!), Glen Taylor (owner of the T-wolves), Steve Porter, Scott Keith/Chronus/Eva (my favorite local DJs!)

Music:

Progressive trance, bluegrass and jam bands, showtunes, funk, jazz, classical, instrumental, a cappella, latin, world music...just to name a few. I will listen to almost anything although I'm not really into emo, rap, country or Christian rock. Here are a few of my favorite musicians: Scott Keith, Chronus, Eva, Jody Wisternoff, Ferry Corsten, Gabriel and Dresden, Second Sun, Armin van Buuren, BT, Above & Beyond, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Joss Stone, Nelly Furtado, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, Keller Williams, String Cheese Incident, Trampled By Turtles, Steve Miller Band, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Journey, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and last but not least Michael Jackson.

Television:

Entourage, Dr. 90210 (sad, I know), The Girls Next Door, America's Next Top Model, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, Sunset Tan, The Amazing Race, Survivor, South Park, Heroes, Real Time with Bill Maher, The Apprentice, Trailer Park Boys... I enjoy brain candy shows because I spend the rest of my time drowning myself in textbooks and homework.

Books:

Good reads: "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold, "The Long Emergency" by James Howard Kunstler, "Nature's Metropolis" by William Cronon, "A Journal of the Plague Year" by Daniel Defoe, "Gone Tomorrow" by Heather Rogers, "Garbage Land" by Elizabeth Royte, "Waste and Want" by Susan Strasser, "Cradle to Cradle" by William McDonough and Michael Braungart. Currently reading: "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri, "All Creatures Great and Small" by James Herriot and "How to Expand Love: Widening the Circle of Loving Relationships" by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Next on my list: "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden, "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris, "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser, "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, "Reefer Madness" by Eric Schlosser, "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan, "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson, "Fat of the Land" by Benjamin Miller, "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac, "Freakonomics" by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, "Gandhi An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments With Truth" by Mohandas K. (Mahatma) Gandhi.

Heroes:

Kari Moorman is f-ing awesome!!!!!!! Mom and Dad, Colin and Annie & Luis! Here are some words of wisdom...enjoy. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "What is a weed? A plant whose virtue has not yet been discovered." Albert Einstein said, "The world will not evolve past its current state of crisis by using the same thinking that created the situation." Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." The Dalai Lama said, "This is my simple religion. No need for temples. No need for complicated philosophy. Your own mind, your own heart, is the temple; your philosophy is simple kindness."
