Here we go......My dad's a musician.... I've been around music all my life..... I mean hell, I knew who Carlos Santana was before I knew about George Washington... lolbut here we goRock.. pretty much all kinds.... Favorite group though has gotta be Aerosmith.... I can be in the worst possible mood and still feel better after hearing them. Metallica,AC/DC, Disturbed, Korn, to name a few.Like soundtrack...... It's good to know that there are people that are a hell of a lot more talented at music arrangement than I ever will be.
Gotta stay true to the movies of my childhood.. Star Wars... even the new bloody ones. Also gotta give the shout out to Lord of the Rings. Godfather. the Indiana Jones Trilogy hmmm lotta trilogies. Can't forget the Back To The Future Trilogy as well..... Of course, X-men, Spiderman, Batman... and pretty much all the hero movies out now. The View Askew Films too.... especially Dogma. the American Pie series hit a little close to home with me and my best friends. War movies, Gotta Top with Saving Private Ryan, as well as Braveheart. Classics too..... you gotta see Casablanca at least once in your life. Gone With the Wind. OF course the past and present incarnations of King Kong. And since wer're on the subjects of monsters.... gotta give da praise to Dracula, Romero's zombie flicks, and of course my ole buddy, Godzilla (original Japanese NOT Matthew Broderick. The Saw movies kinda grew on me too. Comedies... Naked Gun Series still has me rollin. the National Lampoon Movies are still funny as hell... and of course, the granddaddy of goofy ass movies... Airplane.
TV: When I was a kid, I tell people I had five babysitters... my Grandma, Grandpa, and Moe, Larry, and Curly.... sometimes Shemp. To this day, if I'm flipping the Channels and the knuckleheads are on... it's all done... the channel stays where it is..... Stoogapalooza of course!!! I've also become a fan of Law Shows!!! LAw and Order SVU for one, and of course Boston Legal.... of course I know that no lawyer I'm ever going to meet is going to be that cool. The Shield... gooooood show.... as is pretty much any series that HBO does...... ABC has most of the good shows that I watch, although I do catch an episode of Las Vagas every now and then...... and YES, Dassi, Thanks to you, Lila and Kim, I also am a watcher of Sex and the City..... although from a man's perspective... it is a good survival guide to the on-going battle of the sexes....... or else a one way trip to the Loony Bin.....When it comes to animated... it doesn't get much better than the Family Guy right now...... and here I thought that no one would ever beat the Simpsons.....
Sci Fi and Fantasy are for the most part, my library... Tolkien, King, Jordan, Rowling, and especially, now as a man, I appreciate Terry Goodkind. All these guys (and gal) create worlds that I like to visit every now and then. Even Stephen King.....although I still have issues with going near a sewer grate.... UGH...... the Star Wars Books especially as of late became interesting... if you haven't read the New Jedi Order, I do recommend it. It definitely makes the SW universe grow up some. Of course, the media that I want to break into, comics, are a whole genre to pick...... I'm a fan of the Xtitles, the Spiderman, the Justice Leagues (especially after Identity Crisis HIGHLY recommended)... all that. Of course There's Alex Ross's masterpieces,(Kingdom Come, both the graphic novel AND the paperback are wonderful) as well as anything that Miller touched. .......Maus is the deserving award-winner that it is and always shall be..... Lone Wolf and Cub....Also Steve Bissette's Tyrant is another recommended book... and a great example of comics as educational tools as well..... All these books allow us to dream and imagine outside of the world that we live in. They are our mythology, and as our society grows, so to do our heroes, as their myth become legend.
As an artist... and hopefully one day, a comic artist, my heroes are many... both real and fictitious.... ......... As a Catholic, I reckon I do have to say that of course the big J.C. , Jesus, would be my biggest hero... now whether you believe in Him or not...My main inspiration as an artist is Jack the King Kirby... If I could be an eighth of the comic artist that he was, I think I'll be ok. This man could do it all, and is still an example of the ultimate in storytelling through pictures............my other heroes are Leonardo DaVincy, Vincent Van Gogh (whom I share a birthday with, Norman Rockwell, Walt Disney, Mel Blanc, and William Gaines....funny guys, and the builders of Empires.......George Lucas.... Star Wars was such a part of my childhood that I couldn't imagine a time when I didn't call those movies my favorite.........George Perez, the man who draws EVERYTHING....Whether it's a kick ass splash of Superman, to a streetlight in the corner of a panel... the details, gotta be the details..... and Frank Miller.....The process..Whenever I need to show an example of an artistic comic, it's gotta be Frank, also the Kubert family Joe, Adam and Andy, for showing all of us fanboys what dynamic storytelling is....There are many more Heroes, some of whom I have met, other's Ive knows my whole life... My Mom and Dad.....both in their own way, are sucessful in what they do, and continue to inspire me, my Grandma for teaching me about kindness ... and finally, my wife, Hadassa, for marrying a poor schmuck like me and because quite simply, I wouldn't be anything without her in my life.
