About Me

narkARTS came to life in 2004. I make puzzle boxes, which can be found online at www.narkarts.com, the historic open-air market in downtown Charleston, SC and at music festivals throughout the east, from Langerado to Bonnaroo to Gathering of the Vibes. I also make music, which usually finds me playing the bass with one of a few bands here in the Charleston area. I like to make things.

Band Members: I currently enjoy performing with these fine folks. First, we have the V Tones (Noodle McDoodle, Eden Fonvielle, Jeff Arnold, Jack Burg, Darbie Keck and many others), a ukulele jazz string and swing group doing songs from the early 20th century and beyond...Make It Go (Bill "The Charisma" Johnson, Shank Wilson and Whitt Algar), a good old fashioned rock n roll tequila swilling cover band...Simple Possession (Shank and Whitt), piano driven Saturday night house band at Big Johns Tavern...Lime and the Coconuts (Mary Edna Fraser, Noodle, Roger Bellow, Sandy Hines, David Hinson), another string combo catering to the older, quieter crowd...Mister Fister (Jim Algar, Shank), bluesy dirty guitar rock...Dewey Muggles (Harry Morse, Jerry Beale, David Bare), original psychodelic space jam gutter rock where I can act out my guitar god fantasies. These are all incredibly talented people. Come and give us a listen sometime. "As a bass player, to be accessible means to satisfy the requirements of the riff. To satisfy the requirements of the song. To satisfy the requirements of the guitar player's ego. That is the most important job of 98 percent of all bass players will ever have to face because bass players are not supposed to have ideas. They're not supposed to be geniuses. They are supposed to be fuctionaries. They are the lowest-level fuctionary. If you are a bass player in a rock band, you are by definiton a moron."~Scott Thunes, former bassist for Frank Zappa.

Combing through the past

Today, after many months of asking the landlord to re-tile the shower before the tub falls through the floor, tile guy showed up bright and early. I decided to use the day to transfer some music from ...
