About Me

!Birthplace: Brooklyn, NY:Music Style: I have so many but if I have to name a few it would be Hip Hop, R&B, Classic R&B, Reggae, Underground House, Disco, Old break beats, and what ever else you give me on wax. I guess that is why they call me the Music Rocka!!! Number of years Djing: about 22 %DJ Influences: WOW! In the beginning I looked up to djs such as Grand Wizard Theodore, Jazzy Jay, Grand Master Flash, Charlie Chase &Tony Tone (Cold Crush Bros.), DST, Wiz Kid, Red Alert, Africa Bambata (for the amount of different records he made into breaks), Kool Herc, Larry Levan (Garage Days), and then as I got better the DJs that influenced me to keep going was Cash Money, Clark Kent, Scratch, Kid Capri, Brusie B., Jazzy Jeff, Marley Marl, Howie Tee, Mix Master Ice, Louie Vega, Masters at Work, and David Morales. At the present I respect all real DJs that use wax and incorporate all the principles of Djing. %Davorite Gear: Technique 1200 turntables, Rane TTM 54, and Vestex 05,07 pro mixers, Sure M44-7, & Otofon nightclubs with the techniques head shell. %D%AMusic Rocka History: Back in the days in maybe a 1979 I was fascinated by what I heard on live tapes from the Bronx of parties with cats talking on the mic and Djing. From their I started to play close attention of what went on during the block parties in my Brooklyn neiborhood, and I said to myself I want to be the dude who€™s playing the music. So I started trying to mimic what the djs did on my parent€™s record player and records. In 1981-82 my parents brought me my first turntable and it was on from there. I eventually got a mixer and another turntable and in1982-83 I named myself DJ Jazzy Mike Ski. I started collecting records and doing local house parties for my friends and me. From their cats who rhymed came to me and wanted me to dj for them so I was involved a couple of crews who battled other crews around the neiborhood and other contests. I also use to battle other djs for equipment and other things. After developing my skills I started doing bigger parties playing with DJs that were more popular at the time but I kept the djing only as a hobby. Being that I played so many different types of music people started calling me Mike Music, but this other dj in a crew called Divine Sounds who had a record out had that name, so I became the Music Rocker due to that€™s what I did, Rock the music I played. But I went away to collage and acquired regular jobs and did parties on the side. I have opened up parties for many big name party DJ€™s such as Kid Capri, S&S, Craig G, Doo Wop, and Ace. At the time it was still more of a hobby than a career but I always loved music and djing. So a couple of years ago I decided to do music 100% and now all I do is clubs as well as engineer in studios. I have played at thousands of different types of parties and played at numerous clubs throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. I have also done a few guess appearances on radio stations such as 103JAMZ WOWI in Va. and college stations in NY. For 5 months I was the main D.J. for the infamous Wendy Williams on 107.5 WBLS in NY. I also a DJ on Power 105.1 on FutureFlavas with The Legend DJ Marley Marl. I had my own Internet radio show on a website called DOWNSHIFTRADIO.com. My show was called THE UNDERWORLD OF HIP HOP, which specialized; on hip hop joints that you don€™t hear on commercial radio as well as exclusive new joints. We also had many cats come down and show their skills, signed and unsigned. My crew of DJs also joined me and developed their own shows. I also had a show on www.futureflavasonline.com called Takin it to The Streets along side my cohost Nickle Dee. You can find archives from that show as well as past futureflavas show I have done on Power105FM in NY, XM Radio, and the .. show on this website. At the present you can find me DJing at a spot called Negril Village in New York on 70 West 3rd Street bet. Thompson & LaGuardia every Thurs for BigCed TheIndustrycosign.com as well as every Friday and Saturday nights. I am also at a lot of clubs doing parties for many different promoters, as well as on the streets hitting the people with some of the hottest mix CD's out (and that€™s with real mixing not just playing a song and letting it end). I have just recently started to go on the road and tour with R&B sensation MYA as her Tour DJ. So look out for DJ MUSIC ROCKA in your area soon. The takeover has started now!
