Phillip Beale is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He recently finished his studies at Northern Illinois University where he studied Percussion Performance/Jazz Studies under Professor Robert Chappell, Associate Dean Richard Holly, and Professor Ronald Carter.
Beales drum corps background began in 1997 marching snare with the division III corps Mirage from Champaign, Illinois. He then spent two years marching snare with Pioneer. He was the section leader in 1999. In 2001 he was the featured drum set player with the Madison Scouts. Also that year, Beale competed in the solo and ensemble competition where he won best multiple percussion solo with a score of 99.3. As a result, Beale was featured in the January and August 2002 issues of Modern Drummer Magazine. Later that year, Phillip took part in the Guitar Center Drumoff where he competed against other Chicago drummers. He would go on to take first place at that store and advance to the regional finals.Phillip Beale is a distinguished drum set artist in the Midwest having performed with artists/ensembles such as: Soul Slipper, Piece of My Soul, NIU Jazz Ensemble, Panoramic, Liam Teague, Orlando Cotto, Christen Scott, Eddie Henderson, Conrad Herwig Donald Harrison, Orbert Davis, Willie Pickens, Christopher Play Martin of the hip hop group Kid and Play, George Duke, Victor Mendoza, Michael Spiro. As a result of these performances, Beale has been able to travel and perform in such places as Taiwan, Italy, Trinidad, Canada and Peru, as well as various venues among the U.S. He is also a member of the group Panoramic who performed at the 2003 PAS convention with guest artist Dane Richardson and Michael Spiro. Along with teaching several high school drumlines throughout the state, Phillip also has a well-established private lesson studio. Phillip recently was the snare tech with the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps from Lacrosse, Wisconsin in 2005. He's endorsed by Pro-Mark Drumsticks and SABIAN Cymbals.
