I have been a martial artist my entire life. I just didn't know it, until I moved to California. I considered myself a wrestler, before then. And for all intent and purpose, I was. That was the sport I played, and I had little reference to wrestling as a martial art.In 2000, I jumped into a ring to compete in Mixed Martial Arts. From there, I was hooked. It has since become my profession. After moving from University, to train in California---MMA became a full time "job".I now reside in sunny Perth, West Australia. I am the Head Trainer of the Fitness n Fight Centre, which also houses Champion Boxers, Thai Boxers, and a Judo/BJJ Black Belt. Today, the Australian scene has one major event (much like the USA of 2005). Sydney's CFC (Cage Fighting Championships) has upped the bar. They have given a consistent home for the best competitors in the nation, and taken the level of pay, production, and professionalism to a higher ground.Perth is lucky enough to house another of Australia's premier events, the Shooto series. Bringing in the occasional International fighter, it provides opportunity for Australian athletes to compete at a truly professional level.MMA is growing rapidly in Oz, and there is a descent amount of cooperation from the Thai Boxing culture also. With the combat sports banding together, Australia has the potential to make the same gains that we've seen in the US market and also the same gains in talent.
