About Me
There is something about an Old Soul that people notice. Something that evokes a rich, warm feeling and makes you take a deep breath. After a single, soulful note it is clear that 23-year-old Jen Forsythe is indeed an Old Soul, and that looks can be deceiving. Both beautiful and engaging, her performances bring people to their feet and put hearts into throats, through a range of music as varied and challenging as her life itself.
The realization of your own voice is something that most people come to later in life, and some people never find at all. However, Jen Forsythe was shown her voice early on, and has developed it not only into unique presence, but literally a captivating, soulful musical voice as well. Blending pop, R&B, jazz, and a lifetime worth of experiences, Jen exudes purity and strength.
Born in Santa Monica, California to a Canadian father and Swedish mother, Jen was immediately a child of the world. At age 5 her parents' divorce brought her to Sweden where she was raised, but not without a difficult transition period. Although she excelled in sports and academics, Jen learned the hard way about cultural differences. Schoolyard hazing and self-image were constant battles, along with the re-marriage of her father to Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill, where Jen first witnessed true fame first hand.
Her voice was growing. Her soul pushed forward. Soon she would speak 3 languages and would be equally at home in Sweden or North America, and an Old Soul would begin to emerge.
By age 10, Jen had begun singing, playing piano and writing songs, and quickly became recognized among her peers and in competition. However this was only the beginning. During her formative years Jen found her unique voice and when her soul began to speak. Everybody listened, including renowned industry professionals. At 17 she signed a development deal with the producers of Billboard-charting pop group "Da Buzz" and spent valuable time in the studio honing her skills.
In September 2002, Jen was selected to compete in the nationally-televised show Pop Stars, where she sang confidently for millions, made it to the finals, and gained major exposure.
After performing in a variety of venues and recording in the studio, Jen decided to pursue a degree in business and music in the United States, completing her final years at the Stockholm Music Conservatory. She had become not only an artist, but a student of the industry as well.
Soon after, it was at the conservatory that she took the next leap forward, impressing an agent with connections in the US, during a performance. He brought her to Miami, Florida in 2004 where she worked with the hugely successful producer Rudy Perez, of Christina Aguilera fame. Together they recorded the pop ballad 'Mountain' for a Hollywood film soundtrack, and Jen proved her ability in a high-calibre commercial environment. Since then, Jen has been involved with a number of producers and musicians in Sweden, USA and Canada, writing, recording and performing, looking for the next opportunity to bring her voice and her soul to the world that made her who she is.
