Silent Alarm

SO ELECTRIC!!

About Me

Silent Alarm is a group of musicians from diverse musical backgrounds uniting to create a new sound.
In other words, Silent Alarm is a rock band.
This Muscatine gang of four dresses like a rock band, argues like a rock band, and plays guitar music like a rock band. They draw from varied influences like a rock band, from the American alternative of Incubus to the English indie of Bloc Party, and with accents of classic rock like The Who, indie punk like At The Drive- In, and completely dissimilar yet equally arena- ready bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, and Van Halen. They even return to the cluttered basement where they began the band 3 years ago as middle school mutual friends, just to practice; that is, when they’re not out being weekend rock stars at a Friday or Saturday gig.
“Our ambition”, states Taylor Wettach, singer of the group, “is to write as good as the Beatles, perform as good as the Stones, and to have as much fun as our audience does.” Which, judging by the increasingly large and loud audience at the band’s performances, is quite a bit.
“Silent Alarm is sweet!” According to Hanna Porter, and probably most of the kids you’ll meet at a home town Silent Alarm show. Unique, creative, exciting, and fun (“Fun to listen to, and watch” says to Jess Shepard) are other words bandied around by followers of the band in a surprisingly meaningful manner. Fan- favorite songs include Heavenly Abyss (somehow managing to allow both the descriptions ‘dance- rock’ and ‘ballad’), How You Were (the band’s first “big hit”, written in the fall of 2004), and Adult (a dark commentary- epic on the physical side of teen romance, with beautiful harmonies and a sundering sonic ending). But the current most requested song of all would have to be-
“Delete, because it’s very catchy and very, very fun.” says Nate Fillmore. This upbeat rock & roller crosses the boundaries of popular music, becoming relevant to all kinds of people while still keeping some semblance of cool. “It’s freaking awesome, and easy to dance to, and just makes you wanna let go.”(Philip Ostrem)
The love between fans and band is very much mutual, believes Taylor.
“We love our fans. They’re some of the coolest people in the world, from all kinds of different groups. They drive us on so much. They’re really what makes performing fun for us.” As for what’s next for Silent Alarm, they want what every young rock band wants: To expand the fan base, broaden the skills, cut the new record, and maybe even achieve a little fame and fortune. But what’s most important, band guitarist Fred Galoso says, is “the quest for the [ultimate] audio-orgasmic experience.”
...In other words, making great music.
