Post-Emo Rock?!? ...that is at least how The Velvet Chord from Northern Bavaria call their attempt to take ''Emo'' one step further, stressing musical innovation and independence over clichés and eyeliner.
Searching for new approaches they make use of a piano as a base component of the songwriting and constantly broaden their musical spectrum by adding synthesizers to the rather conventional "emo ingredients" like powerful yet beautifully crafted guitar hooks and occasional screaming.
The resulting unique blend of emotionally charged and catchy melodies, dancefloor-compatible beats and at times aggressive breakdowns has earned them support slots for such diverse acts as the American Metalpunk-shooting stars A Wilhelm Scream, the new Grind/HC-heavyweights War From A Harlots Mouth and the critically acclaimed German Indie-hopefuls Kilians and Polarkreis 18.
Originally founded as "Airhead" in late 2002, they had their current line-up complete by 2005 and shortly after began to leave their mark with intense live performances all across Germany (Hamburg, Chemnitz, Aachen, Nuremberg, Kassel, Munich, Regensburg...). Having played nearly 20 shows in the first half of 2007, they took some time off to record their debut EP “…might as well drop dead.â€, which they self-released last fall, and have toured relentlessly promoting it ever since.
Packed with promising new songs The Velvet Chord will hit the studio again this summer, only to return to the stage with even more resolution in 2009...
