My passion is music. I was born into a family of musicians & my grandfather, Antonio Spada , made guitars by hand & he taught me to play guitar by ear when I was young. I played in a few bands while I was in my teens living in Italy & spent 2 years working on community projects teaching kids to sing & perform live on stage at community festivals in the Tuscany region.
Soon after this I went to a local club & heard Francesco Farfa creating a journey of sounds with dj equipment. I was fascinated with his artistry & took up djaying as a hobby. Some years later, having played at a few clubs in the area, I decided to move to London where I met my wife, Samia http://www.SamiArt.co.uk
I spent the early part of UK life working my way up in restaurants & kept up my passion for music playing a few gigs with friends & making music with my brother-in-law, YK http://www.OptiqueUk.com,
in the back of his shop in Rose Hill, Sutton. It was great, experimental & made on the most basic of studio equipment.
Around 1999 I started to dj more & from 2000 until 2004 I had residencies, as Dj Peace, at various big dance parties in London & played at some great venues: Ministry of Sound, Alexandra Palace, SE One, Camden Palace to name a few. My style of music changed from house to trance & I released a top trance tune on Recover Records in 2003, The Force, with a vocal from my wife.
Shortly after this we had or second son & my path veered away from the clubs to the studio.
I made & released 3 albums of dance music & will bring these to the site at some point. Having worked my way up the ranks from washer up to Head Chef, I carried on in this way until 2007 when I realized that my gift for music was something I needed to share with others in a more constructive way & started work on a Home Education Music Project (Check the link on http://www.mrpeace.org , takes you to short video clip) that encouraged a group of 6 kids to create a song that reflected their feelings about school & home education. Some of the kids were musical & others weren't but that didn't matter. We were still able to create a song which everyone was able to contribute to. The youngest was 7, the oldest 12. It was a flashback to those 2 years of my teens working with the community in Italy & I was feeling more fulfilled than I had in a long time.
An interesting series of projects came along after this. I found myself working with an NLP practitioner creating music for her clients to 'journey' on. I also worked with http://www.CoSoYo.co.uk recording the sounds of tuning forks. After this I started work on a project with a soccer skills trainer, an Edutainment project that aimed to use musical beats & claps in sync with the practice drills to enable better co-ordination.
Christmas in Italy, 2007. My wife & I were planning to move here & while we spent time visiting my family I had some interviews for chef work. There were some good offers but it didn't feel right to either of us.
We both realized if we didn't follow our creative passions we would reach 70 & look back & regret it. Something had to change but it wasn't going to involve moving to Italy just yet. We returned home & I downsized my managerial position as head chef feeding 1500 pupils to become a shelf stacker working nights at the local supermarket. This enabled me to pay the bills & have creative thinking space to pursue my dream (while losing several kilos in the process. This is heavy physical work!) Mr Peace is born!
It's now September 2008, this weekend I will be at the Secombe Theatre working with 11-18 year olds on the Sutton Youth Drama Project, creating music to go with their play as part of Sutton's Text Fest. I am working with local kids who bring their lyrics, their voice & I help them find the right sounds to accompany it all. I have 2 radio shows and 1200 listeners tune in to my Tuesday show. I'm promoting Global Groove & stream the party live through the radio & have just set up a PayPal facility so you can buy the music I make direct from me.
Peace, Respect & Happy Dreams
