Dying is Easy started out as a hobby back in 2000, with my mind not fully understanding the elements of what goes into song making. Regardless of it being a hobby, I took what I did very seriously and still do to this day. I dedicated myself to learn as much as I could through friends, websites, books, and various training videos. A couple of techniques I picked up myself, but I owe almost all of my music skills to the numerous influences I have encountered.
Like all things, Dying is Easy was just an idea, a simple concept that was rattling my brain. It was me toying around and fiddling with different instruments and recording everything on a dinky little PC near the beginning of the new millennium. I became interested in creating music when I discovered Magix software, which opened up a whole new world of creating and arranging separate tracks to what eventually became songs, and I use the word “songs†very loosely in this case. I would sample tracks and other media such as movies, then use royalty-free loops to compose a tune. I would then go back over the entire composition, adding effects, noise, distortion, and anything else that I saw fit. A little later, I purchased a microphone and started applying my own noises, such as percussion and guitar to the tunes I was crafting. Of course, these songs sounded very experimental and were generally very low quality, but I didn’t care at all. It was something that was mine and I enjoyed doing it. But I eventually learned new techniques and improved my sound over the years by getting better equipment, learning new tools and instruments, and working with others.
This “band†started as just something fun to do and turned into a full-fledged project that to this day, I still love being a part of. I enjoy experimenting with new sounds, working with different people with different backgrounds, and just overall enjoy the experience of making a song. I still get the same feeling after finishing a song that I did when I first started recording. It’s a great hobby and if others are enjoying what I do, then that just makes me feel even better.
