HISTORY
I'm Paul Addario and i'm a Musician(drummer) i've been playing for over 13yrs. I'm a very driven person, i'm confident in my abilities and know my strengths and weaknesses. I've played in many bands from funk to death metal and i'm currently putting together my own project. I've played venues around San Diego and Los Angeles and done tons of gigging. I have a very broad range of influences which you can see on the right hand side under Music. I also self produce Downtempo and Ambient works. I am an avid hand drummer these days i have two djembes and i look here and there for other world percussion as my finances permit. I collect snare drums, right now Tim Wolfe owner of Joshua Tree Percussion is building me my custom signature stave snare drum i designed. I'm always looking for older drums that i can restore or rebuild. When i'm not busy with music(hardly) i love going camping, skating with my awesome pitbull, exploring/hiking, kayaking, body boarding, pretty much anything outdoors. I'm going back to college in january 2010 to get my degree in Sound Engineering and my plumbing licenses. So that's a little bit of who i am. :~)
LESSONS
I'm looking for beginning/intermediate students interested in learning how to play the drums or advancing their current abilities. We can start from the ground up or continue where your last teacher left off. I also provide specialty lessons, (including but not limited to; Double bass, rudiments, tom work, endurance/speed training and odd meters)
Each lesson plan is designed around each individual student on the notion that everyone learns at different speeds and by different teaching styles as well (IE: a 8yr old beginner is not going to pick up the material the same way as a 22yr old beginner) just as different skill levels call for different exercises. My philosophy is that ADAPTABILITY & VERSATILITY are the keys to musical enlightenment and a long successful career in music.
I have professional gear and a teaching area and will make house calls. I set a positive fun enviornment for my students. Parents are encouraged/invited to stay during the lessons. I like to break away from the conventional methods associated with teaching, sometimes i'll take my students out to the park or the beach or even just outside the studio for their lesson to keep their minds fresh and awakened. i'm also available by phone anytime and will occasionally have guest drummers and other musicians come in to provide insight and demonstrations.
In most cases all students will start by learning the fundamentals of stick control and why it's so important. Each student will be assessed during his or her first time to custom tailor THEIR lesson plan. As any teacher should i firmly believe in doing what's best for my students i know that drumming isn't the only thing going on in their lives and problems occur but as their teacher i'm there to provide more than guidance on the kit i'm also there if they need someone to talk to or advice and if i can't help them or teach them what they want, i know and communicate with other teachers and will gladly refer them if need be. I have great rates and Drumming is my number one passion in life. Anything being taught by me will be of the highest grade. You can email me for samples of my playing.
SESSION WORK
I Also provide Session drumming to all artists/bands that need someone to come in and lay down tracks for demos and albums. scratch track or not i'm flexible, i'm very comfortable with a click, i can play what you like or put something to your music on the spot. I have three different drumsets and a growing collection of snare drums, extra percussion items and recording equipment if need be.
