I am the shelter director at the best farmed animal sanctuary on the planet. I work for Farm Sanctuary, the nations first and largest farmed animal sanctuary and have the distinct pleasure of working with some of the most fantastic people and of course the most incredible animals.
I am 41- almost 42- very happy in my life and living with three dogs, two farm pigs and ten cats on a lovely wooded plot of land near the finger lakes in New York. Life is always busy but extremely fufilling- getting to take in animals from the most horrible situations and watching them thrive in their natural environment with their own kind- being loved deeply and respected as it should be.
I have a wonderful staff at the shelter, all caring, kind, funny people who also work hard to care for so many souls in need. Farm Sanctuary has an awesome vegan community, animal community, compassionate community- a bit of heaven on earth.
Currently we have close to 800 animals here at our New York shelter and 400 plus at our California shelter. Each has their own very unique personality and character- they can touch you so deeply- but you have to get to know them. Most people have never had the opportunity to meet these animals that are usually seen as breakfast, lunch and dinner- but once you do- eating them is not an option.
Anyway- life is good, peaceful and full here at the farm- visit- you won't regret it.
