Somerstown Festival 2005, with Jenny on bass and Chris Coronetto

Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, 3 March 2007, with Phoebe on trumpet

The Deptford Beach Babes have found a bassist - at least until she gets snatched up by some major-record-label-deal type of band!

We are always up for guest musicians, specifically brass players who are female or at least dress that way - contact us if interested!

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
2002: Realised what great timing their reunion was when the Beach Babes ended up doing gigs with the ultimately compatible Naked Ruby, with whom they now share members - the above mentioned Chris, plus Lil Ruby belly dancing with the Babes, in exchange for Ella sometimes falling over -I mean, dancing - with Naked Ruby. 2003: released their limited edition lathe cut 7", to no critical acclaim (as they don't believe in giving free copies to journos) and much popular appeal. 2003: gigging in London, Jersey and Germany... discovered that the surf haven known as Deptford Beach (1 mile East of Greenwich, on the Thames) is now closed. Benefit and/or wake now being planned.... In 2004, founding member Mary and singer the Immortal Johnny Dance left to start a new life in Thighland (Thailand). New bassist Jenny, formerly of Spy 51, is shaping up nicely. Sexton Ming returned for guest vocals for one gig before his retirement from all performing. Other guest vocalists are Nick "Nasty" Marsh, formerly of Flesh for Lulu and currently of Urban Voodoo Machine and the Naked Goat, and Jowe Head currently in Angel Racing Food, formerly in the Swell Maps and Television Personalities. The first gig with the new line up was at the Eye, 79-81 Stoke Newington High Street, N16, on 6 March 2004. Despite near electrocution at the Spread Eagle, a former strip pub in Shoredtich, in May, the band are still all alive and anticipating more shows soon. The band took a break from gigging again in autum 2004 while Ella and Sexton launched their biggest collaboration yet: Lucy. Meanwhile Mary and the Immortal Johnny Dance survived the tsunami and helped the relief effort in Thailand. 2005 and 2006 have seen more shows, the release of the CD Hawaii SE-8 (SE-8 being the poscode for Deptford, for those not in the know), and Jenny's departure for Australia. Mary rejoined, but is expecting the birth of the baby Jesus round Xmas. Enter: Vicki Churchill and some accoustic shows with just guitars and vocals - watch this space! 2007 started with a bang: 3 new members, Charley, Vicki and Phoebe make the Babes once again finally have more girls in than boys (what? one looks a bit tall for a girl? piss off!). Debut gig at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes was smashing. Look for more soon!2007 continues to get better and better: Charley rocks out on bass and we wear new outfits and Vicki and guest singer Jane Ruby write new songs - if you haven't seen us lately, what are you waiting for?? 2008 : our ever expanding line up includes member of the Trans-SIberian March Band and more of Urban Voodoo Machine - Paul-Ronney, Gomez, Joe Whitney, Nick Marsh and Gary have all had turns with us! While Gomez is away Kath of TSMB stands in, and Donald dresses like he's on a seaside holiday! New recordings done at Gizzard, with more expected in the autumn.
