About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !
.. width="425" height="350" ..Gian Smith, born on a cool Summer Saturday May 20, 1978 has lived up to the smooth circumstances of his arrival. The son of two educators, a Principal/ Assistant Superintendent and a college Professor, Gian was never short on resources for knowledge. His thirst and quest for understanding drove him to uncanny observation of the world around him, and most specifically, the people in it. And it is his unique understanding of people and passion for intimate knowledge of them that has found him capable and forthcoming in expression of his research. It was while at Tulane University he found his desire for writing. Although already an avid reader in his youth, it was in his father’s introduction to African-American Literature class where he found new desire for written expression. He spent the next few years gaining life experiences, transitioning in and out of various moral and spiritual turmoil, becoming intimate with life’s highs and lows. After Hurricane Katrina forced him from his home city of New Orleans to live outside of it’s boundaries for the first extended period in his life, his kinship and adoration for the city grew in his absence. Upon first availability he returned to his home town and vowed to himself to participate in any and all ways to help rebuild his city culturally, proclaiming the imminent onset of a “Post Katrina Renaissance.” As a writer Gian had looked to express himself in many different genre of writing. Prior to Katrina he had run a very popular blog column, with avid viewership, written two screenplays, and a host of written poems. But it was the desire for long prose that moved him most and he began work on his first full length Novel. In the meantime he decided the best way to gain exposure and participate in the culture of his city was through the Spoken Word. He armed himself with technological knowledge of a camera, and between his wonderful poems and understanding of video production he made himself an invaluable member of the most intimate poetry circles in New Orleans. As the Spoken Word scene grew so too did the name G Perspective. A name Gian chose for the stage because he felt his greatest attribute was his positive and objective perspective he had earned through his life experience. As the G Perspective, G vowed to pass on his knowledge to anyone open to him. He captivated audiences with his smooth, melodic voice and sultry, impacting, and profound words After a year building his reputation as one of the finest Spoken Word artists in a deeply poetic South, he once again turned to the camera to begin directing. Initially he had intended on writing some material for a play to be performed. But scrapped that idea in favor of doing a short film based on one of the short stories intended for a fragmented novel he had begun working on. It was his desire to work behind the camera and his transcending ingenuity that led him to direct a first of its’ kind “Spoken Word video” for his poem “Ces’t La Vie.” The poem and video were met with uproarious approval, especially for his fine cinematography and editing. This launched a campaign which led to the production of several more Spoken Word videos, as well as a few music videos. All done with minimal budget and minimal staffing G Has just completed content for his first publishing project, a double CD titled “Perspectives in G, Perspectives in Love.” G is also in the process of completing a second novel project taken on in hiatus of the first which is anticipated to be completed this Spring. G has a bright future as a true Katrina Renaissance artist with unlimited potential and unparalleled creativity. The World is waiting…
