As the sunsets and rises, amidst the misty sky the will for success is evident. My name is Ankesh Jagur and I attend the University of California Davis. I am 18 years old and my aspirations for success is limitless. My peers around the world need not to use the “About Me” column to showboat their latest fads or individual slang to attract the opposite sex; but rather recognize that life has much more to offer than just that. After you read my “About Me” column, I hope you do not generate the impression that I am way too philosophical by educating my fellow peers with valuable insight, but rather use my words as inspiration to succeed. Besides, I truly am a very down to earth caring man that loves spending quality time with his family and friends-the JAGUR that everyone loves.
This year will mark the completed transition of an ignorant teenager to an intellectual man. The beauty of education has truly embraced my whole life and has opened my mind to many different aspects of life. I have many beliefs of what defines a man. First, a true man must provide for his family and spend time with his family. Also, a man must be able to admit to his wrongdoings and be able to learn from his mistakes. Lastly, a true man shall always help another man in the time of need because I believe there is a supreme power that appreciates the art of giving. This is partly why throughout my life I hope to advocate humanitarian efforts around the world that will help poverty and cure life-threatening diseases like HIV.
Image. The power of perception and image has both its positives and negatives. Not only does an individual himself develop their own image, but also people in society have the power to influence this type of image. The power of others creating a self-entitled image of another individual results into a huge problem-the lack of control. Even though I am only eighteen years old, after I die I hope people remember me as an individual that pushed people to regain the reigns of their own image and to alter this image if needed.
The life changing experience that I will always cherish was playing varsity football. Everyone should consider experiencing some type of sport activity because sports contributes to teamwork, a detrimental aspect that contributes to our human behavior. In high school, I was Master of Ceremonies and that position vastly sharpened my communication skills. There are many more awe-inspiring experiences that I could elaborate in my life, but I feel the need not to do so because these experiences mean nothing if my current actions does not translate into success.
My inspiration comes from my family. Family is everything to me. People have absolutely no idea what family means to me. I will always love them. The leader of my family, my late grandfather, always told me that if I ever broke a leg he would break the other one. As a young boy, the thought of breaking another leg seemed very harsh, but over time I learned a valuable lesson from my grandfather. The life lesson of giving all that you possibly can because at any moment everything can be taken away.
Individuals shall never loose sight on the purpose of life. Once an individual begins to lose their overall purpose to life, then I believe they will never be able to regain their soul. One should never conform to another man’s beliefs for the simple fact that it may be appealing. But embrace thier own ideas and beliefs, regardless if they go against the norm.
The sky is now clear and filled with opportunity for all. I just thought I would write something motivating and inspiring rather than using the “About Me” column to gather popularity. This column has given me the opportunity to express my opinions; the power of the tongue will always be al mightier than the sword.
