About Me

I just watched the movie Together (Tilsammens), which I remember seeing with my brother when it first came out, eight years ago (!?). It's the best. Good characters, really funny cultural situations/ observations related to living on a commune... an arrangement it (ultimately) shows the value in without being wide-eyed... and it delivers on the emotions. This is also the movie that communicated to me the fact that ABBA is good. As an added bonus you can learn Swedish (sister is the same word).
I have been practicing map and compass skills recently. I took a workshop called Orienteering 101, where we were instructed in this matter, and then had to complete a course, locating 8 points marked on a map, and return to the start. After the initial embarrassment of starting out walking in exactly the wrong direction, I fell into a panic-heightened groove and completely kicked butt. Not that it was a race... officially. It was an unofficial race.

Tonight I was evacuated from the movies while watching Kung Fu Panda. Evacuated may be an exaggeration... but the power went out and emergency lights came on, and everyone milled about while a very dramatic storm was going on outside. It was an excitingly unexpected ending to the movie. Kung Fu Panda was very funny (will go back to see the regular ending).
I recently climbed Hunter Mountain, the first mountain I have climbed that is over 4000 feet (in the east- in the west the whole place is that high). I was on top of the peak, climbing the fire tower and eating lunch, at about 5:30.. I passed a lot of people going down on my way up, but I think I was the last one on top that day.
I like several things in the recent movie Prince Caspian... like when the two older kids announce that they won't be returning to Narnia, and... "it's alright- it's not the way we thought it would be- but it's not that bad." Something made the medicine (growing up) palatable.
I really enjoy pizza, but I was made aware that we are heavily influenced by the choices appearing in our environment, including food and cultural elements of all kinds. So am I just a (conscious-?) membrane responding positively or otherwise to elements in solution in a vast sea? That's one way to look at it, I suppose.
