About Me

A few words from music writer Joel Henderson:I first heard Matt play at a worship event in Pensacola, Florida, and rather than covering one of the popular worship songs, he shared with us some of his original work and capped off his set with a well played cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”. A few months later, I heard the complete New Love Over and was immediately taken with the dirty pop rock sound. New Love Over has since released Breve (Extended Play) and recently relocated to the Nashville area to further push forward their art. It seems today that a lot of music reviews follow the formula of adding up an album’s good and bad songs, and the content of the review is determined by which category of songs has the greater number. Maybe that works for some people, but I like to look at the entire project and experience, the complete flow of the music. New Love Over’s EP Breve is one such experience that is unfortunately over too quickly. The journey begins with the track “With Love”, the desperate search for love, and not the sugary sweet Hallmark love, but a “new” love. There are times throughout the journey when the direction isn’t clear; “Show Me the Way” is a haunting cry for clarity and guidance. Further in and further upward on this journey, truth is revealed, wisdom is gained, and in the pensive “Eight More Miles”, life and love can pass by too quickly and should never be taken for granted. In the midst of this journey, there is always cause for celebration; “Where I Would Be” celebrates the healing power of love. Breve flows from beginning to end with its incendiary guitar and honest lyrics. It gives listeners just enough of a sampling of New Love Over to leave you wanting more.
