Howdy,
I’ve been off this site for a while and stuck in other things, but looking back, the site seemed way to stiff to be mine, so I’m redoing the entire thing. My name is garrett and I’m a singer/songwriter. I play multiple instruments. I’ve been the frontman for two bands: eden and No Exit. Each band lasted 8 years. Eden was signed to a European label and we went to Berlin. The label fell apart and we came back to Atlanta and put the band on semi-permanent hiatus. I still maintain very tight friendships with the bandmembers that I shared my life and talent with. A couple of years ago I moved to Oakhurst/Decatur Ga. which is one of the finest places on earth. Still has that “old town†feel. I know most of my neighbors and see them on a daily basis at any one of several bars/restaurants, or just walking down the street with kids, or dogs. I began “jamming†with quite a few different folks. Not “jam†as in jamband, but “jam†as in writing on the spot. I found that I have quite a talent for coming up with lyrics on the fly. This led me to develop and host the All American Open Jam. The AAOJ was held at Eddie’s Attic for a year (which is quite a feat, being that the Open Mic is the only other long running “show†that Eddie’s has ever had). The AAOJ was a four to five hour writing session with all sorts of musicians and musical instruments; Flute, horns, guitars, percussion, harp, stand up bass, penny whistle and a ton of different vocal stylings. My partner runs Friendly Records, which you can find on myspace, and we recorded every hour of every show. We then mixed and mastered the best hour and put them on CD. At the end of the AAOJ run, I think we were up to something like 40 CD’s of original, first time music. Pretty incredible. If interested, you can find the site at myspace.com/aaoj. I currently play every Saturday in Oakhurst at a place called Steinbecks. www.steinbecksbar.com. It’s not the AAOJ, but I still welcome any/all musicians to come out and play a few songs, either with me, with others, or to showcase some of their own songs. I book at another venue in Oakhurst and I was also responsible for booking music for some festivals in Decatur last year. Oakhurst Earthday Festival and Steinbeck’s Oysterfest to name a few. I’ve played with and opened for some of the best musicians on the planet and I feel very lucky for the career I’ve had in music. I have tons of good friends and a handful of very good friends. I’ve maintained some of these friendships for upwards of 20 years. I am in the process of writing a book called “Tales from Red Acre Woodsâ€. It’s almost done and will be targeting children from 7-14. I have a beautiful wife of 10 years and two amazing kids. Dylan, my son, is 5 and quite the genius, and Reese, my daughter, is 3 and quite the little comedian. She’s also fearless and has been on stage with me a few times. She does a mean version of Over the Rainbow. I have great parents who have been married for over 45 years. I have one sister and a ton of nieces and nephews. I’m a lot of fun to hang around with and enjoy most forms of entertainment. I majored in film/video at GA. State, so I’m a big movie buff. I wanted to be a director, but got into music first and it just stuck. I’m not much of a sports nut, but I do work out 3 times a week to stay in shape. I’m 37 but still look and feel 27. I’m a stay at home dad during the days and an author, or musician at night. So, that’s me in a nutshell. Hope you find my site interesting and I’m always open to suggestions, or praise. I will be adding tons of new pics and redesigning the site to reflect more of my personality. I wish you all the best and thank you for visiting.Peace,
garrett
