About Me

I've been a professional performer for over 25 years. I'm self-taught on piano and keyboards, and I've played with a variety of artists and bands in venues ranging from backyards to huge stadiums. I also have theater experience, including serving as musical director for local college productions of "The Me Nobody Knows" and "Le Stardust Revue", an original show for which I developed the initial musical arrangements.

Born and raised in Chicago, my career is based in the Chicago area. In 2001 I began playing with international blues artist Lonnie Brooks. While with Lonnie, I traveled the United States and Europe, sharing stages with such artists as: Buddy Guy, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Wilson Pickett, the Blues Brothers, and Koko Taylor. On July 4th, 2002, I joined the Lonnie Brooks Blues Band in a performance that was featured as a part of the Peter Jennings ABC television special, “In Search of America: A Fourth of July Musical Celebration”.
Although I had a ball with Lonnie and the guys, I soon had enough of life on the road, and began performing locally again in late 2002--both as a solo artist, and with a variety of ensembles. Some of the artists that I have performed with lately include: Michael Henderson, Ray Parker, Jr., Alexander O'Neal, Cherelle, and The Emotions.
As a solo pianist and vocalist, I rely heavily on standards, blues, and some favorites from the 60's, 70's, & 80's. As part of an ensemble, I perform all of the above, plus smooth jazz favorites, and anything the gig might call for, or is requested by the client. For more info, and to inquire about my availability for your event, please e-mail me at: [email protected]. Whether it’s a piano bar, a jazz club, a wedding, corporate event, or a backyard barbecue, John Talmadge is ready to entertain.
