It takes more than gasoline to get to paradise ...

About Me

To whom it may concern:I grew up in idyllic Chapel Hill, N.C., went to school in gorgeous Ithaca, N.Y. ... and now reside outside of Charlotte, where I work as a frustrated but fulfilled journalist. I'm passionate about writing, sports, people, music and adventures. In daily life, I alternate often between the ages of 5 and 75. I've been called a caricature of a person. I aspire to one day become the coolest old man ever.I'm up for most anything, especially if it makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe. I generally try not to be an asshole.Sometimes I suck at life, and sometimes I act like a moron. Don't you?I try to run regularly and shoot hoops occasionally, and I own a guitar I have no idea how to play.I love to be outside in spectacular surroundings when you can't even feel the weather. I often find myself on aimless drives with the windows down and music up.I feel a deep, philosophical connection to the movie Billy Madison.Among others, the following activities make me happy: Bowling, mini golf, ice cream, hilariously crappy minor-league sporting events and spontaneous expeditions to anywhere and everywhere. My favorite places to eat are Japanese Steakhouses and Waffle Houses, and I am the proud owner of a few atrociously performing shares of stock in Krispy Kreme.I have a fairly fantastic mom whom I affectionately call "the churchlady," a hippie sister who works as a social worker in Baltimore, a dad who's a doctor and a cat named Juanita.Just in case, I always keep a change of clothes, a basketball, a hooded sweatshirt and a pair of green foam Hulk hands in the back of my CR-V.If you would like to partake of my fabulous life, I request only that you do not smell and you are not one of those half-naked nonexistent robosluts who are always sending me friend requests and offering me their neudy pictures. That is all.Peace,Josh

Books:

I primarily read the piles of newspapers and magazines that are scattered throughout my apartment. I am fascinated by the idea of books, but I somehow rarely find time to read many of them. Of the ones I've actually finished, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Catcher in the Rye, The Phantom Tollbooth and Of Mice and Men were fairly memorable. I also own hundreds of dusty tomes -- some new, some old, most about sports -- that I plan to read on a rocking chair some day when I am an ancient, wise and stubborn curmudgeon.

Heroes:

My mom, my coaches and all the people I'd like to meet, among others.
