I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm not much of the blog type, I don't think--just signed up because I've got a few friends here. Maybe I'll post some occasional poetry, but don't hold your breath for updates. This'll probably also be more for personal stuff. I've got another blog for more public consumption @ http://www.abathur.com ;)

Been writing for 5 years or so but I'm looking at sending out stuff for the first time within the next few months, see if I can't get myself some pinkslips to deflate my ego a bit. I've really enjoyed the world of creative expression writing has opened up to me.

My Interests

Writing, music, thinking, daydreaming, philosophy, yoga, reading, MBTI (the personality typing theory) whatever other random obsession I've taken up recently.

I'd like to meet:

Different people, I guess. Intelligent people who aren't afraid of new ideas and don't care what society thinks. I've thought it might be neat to meet someone like Howard Hughes, but I guess truly interesting people are rare enough that I wouldn't be picky--any mindmate will do.

Music:

A lot, really. Just about anything but country and tejano, but sometimes I'm picky. Most rock, though I tend towards heavier stuff, classical, bluegrass, some rap and sadly, some pop. I think I should be ashamed of that, but I'm not big on liking what people tell me I should like.

Chevelle, Metallica, Godsmack, Seether, Evanescence, Buckcherry, Bush, Crazy Town, Audioslave, RATM, Apocalyptica, Alison Krauss, Eminem, 50 Cent, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Powerman 5000, Coal Chamber, Disturbed, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Unloco, Fuel, Drowning Pool, Green Day, Hoobastank, Nirvana, Incubus, Justin Timberlake, Katy Rose, Marilyn Manson, Lucy Woodward, Methods of Mayhem, Christina Aguilera, Mudvayne, Tool, System of a Down, Michelle Branch, N.E.R.D., Nickelback, NIN, The Offspring, Obie Trice, Papa Roach, Our Lady Peace, Paulina Rubio (drool), Puddle of Mudd, Public Enemy, Queens of the Stone Age, Silverchair, Soil, Staind, Static X, Stone Sour, Sugarcult, Thicke, Veruca Salt, Avenged Sevenfold, Fall Out Boy, Flyleaf, Project 86, Shinedown, Switchfoot, The Darkness, 10 Years, Amen, Allister, Blindside, Death Cab for Cutie, Finch, Franz Ferdinand, Hinder, Jason Mraz, Jet, Mae, Les Choristes, Norah Jones, The Refreshments, The Clay People, The Futureheads, The Used, Missy Elliot, Panic! At the Disco, Stars, Copeland, Arctic Monkeys, Rock Kills Kid, Emery, The Raconteurs, Say Anything, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Boris, Funeral for a Friend, Hit the Lights,

Movies:

I think I lived through "Saved!" Sin City, Gladiator, The Matrix, Braveheart, Tombstone, Oceans 11, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Desperado, Swordfish, Closer, Star Wars (episodes 2-6), LOTR, Seven, Fight Club, Full Metal Jacket, Chicago, Gettysburg, Glory, The Untouchables, Jaws, The Ring, Scream, American History X, The Sixth Sense, Blade, Indiana Jones, Das Boot, Die Hard, 28 Days, Arlington Road, Troy, AWTR, Shaun of the Dead, 10 Things I Hate About You, Finding Forrester, 8 Mile, The Manchurian Candidate, The Aviator, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Coach Carter, Lords of Dogtown

Television:

I don't watch much TV. I usually just listen to music while I'm doing whatever unless something specific is on. I like watching the mythbusters when I remember, and Wild Boys. I like catching random college football games when it's that time of year. I really loved Rich Girls on MTV, but they were taken away from me. :(

Books:

Frankenstein, H.G. Wells stories, Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz, anything by Robin Cook, I guess I read magazines more than books, but I've got a big stack of both to work through.

Heroes:

People who aren't afraid to rock the boat. And Winnie the Pooh. Seriously. Maybe he's not the smartest bear in the world, but he's still figured out that the first thing you do when the shit hits the fan is take a little time out to think about it. That's settin' an example, folks.

My Blog

Publication. Ya. rly.

Been a bit of a bum about actually blogging this, but I'll go ahead and do it now. I had a poem "published" by some entity other than myself for the first time on the first. It's available for reading...

Windows

Sometimes a window opens, while a door shuts. Other times, the window was open first, the door shuts, you go inside and forget about it, then it rains all night. :(

Opportunity and Rejection

So, on the upside, the turnaround for one of the journals (9th Letter) I submitted my poetry to was amazingly fast. Like, 2 weeks (I wasn't really expecting to get anything for at least a month.) On t...

So I'm walking by the SUB

And this short hispanic guy waiting by the wall starts following me. I'm listening to my music, so he taps me on the shoulder and starts talking to me. I pull an earbud out and he says (in a rather "s...
