Messes featuring Mia Maestro live at Home 4/15/09

Messes at Hyperion Tavern 2/22/2007

Messes is (are?) from Echo Park. Messes songs are probably what would happen if classical players and country players came together - like the Mystics and the Skeksis in the Dark Crystal. What's really cool is that if you walk out our backyard gate you are right in the middle of Elysian Park. 587 acres of park and trees and trails in the backyard in the middle of Los Angeles. Imagine that! Dogs. Messes likes dogs.

The Messes self titled e.p. is now out of print.
...but you can still purchase the Digital Cloud "Firsts" compilation featuring a messes track at the Bay Bridged Store .

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Aaron Robinson writes and records all of the songs. He is joined live by Arvel Hernandez on guitar, clarinet, and orchestra bells. Recently, Messes played with Pete Newsom on drums and it was really nice. Other players have included Jen Lindberg on Bass, Gus Seyffert on drums, Thea Maria on cello, and Devin McNulty on keys and bass clarinet. Joseph Childress, Shannon Barrero, Hallie Haglund, and the Shisko Sisters from Trapeze and Carrots have all sang with us. Farmer Dave Scher played pedal steel on a recording once too.

Related Projects: Randazzo Robinson , Sea Wolf , and Family Trea
Influences: Messes is strongly influenced by many of the same natural laws of time and space that affect, and oftentimes even control, most all of the material, both organic and inert, that comprise the whole of the planet Earth. Also my dad, and Rimsky-Korsakov because in the seventies sometimes parents-to-be would choose specific, familially relevant music to be played over the hi-fi during the miracle of natural birth. My mom screamed "Turn that shit off this is killing me," and then "give me an epidural," so the exotic strains of Scherezade never danced their swirling arabesques upon my virgin ears as I was given violently up into the world.

The Realization of McLuhan's Global Village Still Hasn't Enabled Us To Talk To Animals

All that tv stuff in that last one was bullshit. We don't even have a tv, haven't for almost ten years. We say "We" when we talk about ourselves because it gets so lonely out here and we haven't had...
