I am here for Friends

About Me

Welcome to the World of D3STROY, Drum N Bass veteran and music fanatic!
This is where you learn a bit about me, if you want to that is, I wouldn't expect you to read on if you couldn't care less about me!
What can I tell you about me ? ok here goes boys & girls.
As you already can see my Name is Dean aka DJ D3STROY and I live in the UK, home of the finest Drum n Bass on the planet we inhabit.
I am a bit of a Drum N Bass fanatic, well actually music itself in general is my life force and it keeps me sane in an insane world.
I have been spinning vinyl for like 13 years now, primarily Drum n Bass and there is no sign of me letting up (just yet).
I am part of the Vibe Crew, The Ambush Sqaudron, & The Soul Beat Runnaz
I also have my own promotion called STORM which is currently, ahem unavailable at the moment!
I started out DJ'ing in my teen age years with Rave Music back in 1992.
...Taking you back to those golden years...
I loved music even as a young child, my older brother Paul got me into Soul & Motown music when I was very young and I just wanted to hear more and more different sounds and styles, I was tended to be more clued up than all of the other kids I knew.
Paul had all sorts of rareties that you wouldn't even be able to find these days, I wish he would have kept them all as they would be worth a mint now.
My Dj'ing all started with a job I had working in a record shop (Pure Records) in Birmingham part time whilst I was at college studying Business & Finance.
Ever since I went into the shop with mates buying old rave tunes in 1991, I really wanted to work there as it was one of the best shops in the Midlands for the music that I was into at the time, and I knew that it would be amazing for me.
When the opportunity came up at college to do work experience at a place of your choice, well within relation to business & finance, I jumped at the chance.
As soon as I was asked where I wanted to do my work experience at college, you can gyess where I asked to go...
I just couldn't resist asking to go and work there.
My lecturer had to actually go to the shop and ask them for permission, and show them the course syllabus as it was common practice.
I can just imagine her face when she walked in and saw rastas blazing joints and bopping to rave tunes!!! :O)
When I first started it was all a bit surreal, I had been shopping their for vinyl before, but I never expected to be working there with some of the main midlands heads on the scene.
I met all sorts of Dj's and MC's, producers from across the board really.
Some of the people that I met there were Mc Bassman, Lenny who was like my uncle :O) Keith Suckling a hardcore legend at the time, and no I don't mean porn, Lee 'All Funked up' Fisher and many more names.
To some of you reading this it will mean absolutely nothing, to myself and others who know of these people it was something to talk about to your friends who listened to the tapes of the DJ's and the like.
Being someone or being part of something like that in your teenage years means alot, I can honestly look back and say "yeah, Dean those were some wicked times man, glad you didn't miss them!"
Anyway I had better carry on, I went a bit off track their with my happy thoughts and memories...
I met a lot of influential figures from the scene who guided me through some of the musical style that were around at the time, a bit like my brother Paul who unintentionally guided me as a child into Soul, motown and
It was mainly acid house, funky house, rave and early types of drum n bass.
I have and always will be an underground type of music person, coming from an urban city background on the streets.
Pure Records provided the masses with all of the upfront sounds from club land which you couldn't get anywhere else, if you heard it on a tape/cd pack, you would get it there.
I bought some amazing records from that shop and many I still have in my vinyl collection which now amounts to over 3,000 (shocked???)
Too many I know but they are my memories.
As well as being into the music scene from a buying point of view I was also an avid clubber, and working at Pure meant that I got a lot of VIP's and guest list passes to some of the nights in Birmingham.
My favourite had to be Pandemonium at the Institute in digbeth, it's now called the Sanctuary but it is still a legendary venue across Birmingham.
The Institute was the place that had all of the names playing, I saw practically all of the main names of the rave scene at the time...
Grooverider, Fabio, Ratty, Jumpin Jack Frost, Pilgrim, Top Buzz, Carl Cox, The Rat Pack etc etc.
It was total chaos in there when the crowd were buzzing, 1,500 smiling faces and music until 4.00am, what more would you want when you are a teenager???
I stood there dancing in awe and wonder at the crowd, music, Dj's and mc's and I said to myself "you need to do get into this yourself"
A few months later my mum god rest her soul bought me a pair of Technics 1210 turntables, a mixer, an amp & speakers and I was on my way to being able to spin on the wheels of steel!
The job at Pure Records combined with my passion for the music basically guided me into DJ'ing and I have been doing it ever since.
It took me about 6 months before I could beat match, scratch & mix but now it's like second nature.
Rave music evolved into Jungle, Jungle inton Drum n Bass and so on.
I have lost count of how many different variants I have played but I still have all the tunes to prove it.
That is basically how I became DJ DESTROY, oh and if you want to know why I called myself that name there is a valid reason...
I was a destructive little s**t when I was younger and I used to break, burn, smash everything in sight, I was a complete Vandal
A bit more about me..I was born in Worcester, I have 2 older brothers and one older sister.
Quite a lot older actually, my parents had me in their 40's.
I attended primary school in Worcester, followed by my high school until 1991.
After high school I went to college for further taking my BTEC FIRST, and then I took my NATIONAL in Business & Finance.
After college I continued to DJ and I worked part time too.
Over the the years I have played for a lot of different promoters including some of the following:
Obsession, Pandemonium, One Nation, Garage Nation, Amnesia House, Fibre Optic, Vibe, Ambush, Foundation, Vinyl Massacre, Genetic, Spectra.
I have played at many cities all over the country including:Birmingham, Leicester, Cardiff, London, Coventry, Worcester, Leamington, Manchester, Hereford, Wolverhampton etc.
I have also played on a few pirate radio stations too.
As well as playing drum n bass, I also review drum n bass releases and forthcoming material for a record store.
Now my life goes a bit like this...
I have a beautiful 1 year old daughter we named Yasmin and I a quaint property in a nice little village in my home town of Worcester.
I work in the Purchasing department of a blue chip organisation who manufacture steam traps, control devices and systems for pretty much every industry.
I basically do all the production planning, from the buying of materials needed for production, right through to capacity planning, into production, completion and then out to the customer.
The company I work for are great, the perks/bonuses are wicked, prospects are very good, and there are plenty on opportunities to work abroad in other sites that we have.
That is my job, Dj'ing is a passion not a job for me!
I have a few close friends that I see as much as I can, and I have loads of mates.
There are mates who you see and talk to, and their are friends that you talk to all night, can cry in front of and can laugh until your sides hurts.
Can you define a friend and a mate?
I have loads more to follow but I will follow it all up at a later date.:O)Thanks for reading, I hope I didn't bore you too much.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

If you already know me as a person you will know that I like to talk, have a laugh, and socialise.
I have got loads of funny stories and stuff so if you are open minded, have dabbled with chemicals (naughty naughty) , and have a good sense of humour we will get on well.
Cool people in general = all good!
Anyone who is into music, film, cinema, sci-fi, comedy etc = all good!
I am not a rude person and I am a good listener, as long as people don't talk about themselves all day I don't care.
I can't chat with self diluted people as it makes me want to scream!!!
If you are self diluted just pretend your not because its really annoying.Peace, Love, Unity & the D3STROY way
