Like chocolate and peanut butter, a circus twenty-four-hour-man and a British DJ came to together in 1985 to give the Tampa Bay Area a sweet treat. Dave Hundley, fresh off tour with the Clyde Beatty Circus met up with Daddy Kool Records proprietor, Tony Rifugiato to form No Clubs Presents!, giving the local music a much need shot in the arm.
Still following the DIY ethics and just as passionate about the next show as they were about their first show, No Clubs! promotes nearly 150 concerts annually. Always being on the cutting edge while bringing a diversivied line up has made No Clubs! a venerable and respected promoter by music fans, musicians, agents, and other promoters. No Clubs! is more than just a concert promotions company - it is also a retailer, a property owner, lease holder, former publisher, community revitalizer, rockin' baby sitter, and friend.
Starting with their first concert, Suicidal Tedencies at the Cuban Club in Ybor City, No Clubs! has danced to the beat of its own drum. In 1985, Ybor City was an urban blight with an artistic undergound. No Clubs! brought live music and young people to the area and the entertainment district blossomed. The same can be said for downtown St. Petersburg. No Clubs! put Jannus Landing with its adjacent and now defunct Club Detroit, and the State Theatre on the map. The live music scene has helped downtown St. Petersburg become a major entertainment destination, and No Clubs! is the strongest player in the area's live music scene.
In addition to the aforementioned Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Nirvana, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Wilco, Stone Temple Pilots, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Bauhaus, The Jonas Brothers, Green Day, AFI, Bad Religion, Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Rise Against, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Limp Bizkit, At The Drive In, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Against Me!, Megadeth, The Skatalites, Fugazi, The Misfits, Sublime, Bon Iver, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Matchbox 20, Skinny Puppy, Underoath, Faith No More, Jody Watley, Beastie Boys, De La Soul, The Sugarcubes, Gogol Bordello, Fall Out Boy, Fishbone, Jane's Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, Living Colur, Manchester Orchestra, Of Montreal, Slayer, Social Distortion, Rufus Wainwright, Siouxie and the Banshees, Smashing Pumpkins, Psychedelic Furs, Linkin Park, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Deftones, Less Than Jake, Burning Spear, Anberlin, Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday, Ratatat, and Bad Brains are just a few of the bands No Clubs Presents has brought over the years.
After 10 years of promoting concerts, No Clubs! leased the State Theatre in downtown St. Petersburg in 1995. In the late 1990's Tony and Dave took on Andy Webber as a business partner. Soon after, they bought downtown St. Petersburg's State Theatre and leased the Orpheum in Ybor City. No Clubs! also promotes concerts at the Ritz Ybor, Jannus Landing, and the occassional off the beaten path venue.
