About Me

Permanent Tanooki was conceived sometime during the spring semester of 2000 by two college students sitting in a class entitled Religious, Ethics and Moral Problems. Rather than paying attention, the two spent most of the time reading and discussing the comics page of the Cavalier Daily, eventually deciding to write their own strip. The rest of the semester was spent developing the ideas and characters that would become Permanent Tanooki. When the comic launched the following August, it quickly became apparent that the two could have spent more time paying attention in their ethics course rather than discussing comics. Over its three year run in the Cavalier Daily, Permanent Tanooki established its irreverance toward pretty much everything, making jokes about everything from religion to testicular cancer and even running a fake obituary for a fellow student (Don't worry, that student was in on the joke). During the last year of its run, Permanent Tanooki dabbled in some corporate sponsorship, replacing the beloved monkey JFK with the mascot of a local establishment. At the time the creators were only interested in procuring free beer. However, after a three year hiatus, Permanent Tanooki is making its triumphant return, with a reunited Corbin and JFK and a slew of returning characters (well the ones that aren't dead at least) searching for meaning in their lives after college.

Here are some old strips that were printed in the Cavalier Daily:
Hopefully, you'll see a difference in the effort this time around.

My Interests

The comic will launch on Monday, April 17, 2006. Between now and then, we will introduce you to some of the characters. First up, Corbin:

Corbin graduated from the University of Virginia in 2003 with a B.S. in Leisure Studies. Unable to find a job, he moved to San Diego where he eventually found employment as a sanitation worker.

Next we have JFK:

Originally, JFK was the pet grave-robbing monkey of Corbin's college roommates, Steve and Jay, but Corbin and JFK quickly became best friends. During the last year of the strip JFK disappeared and was replaced with Mel O., a giant talking mushroom. After Corbin moved to San Diego, he tracked JFK down and convinced him to move to San Diego. JFK now works with Corbin as a sanitation worker.

This is the Ill-Tempered Panda, or IT:

The Ill-Tempered Panda is pretty self-explanatory. He led a fairly normal life with a doting yet annoying wife and a tedious 9-5 job. However, he has an unusually short temper, particularly for a panda. Over the years, the Panda has mawled almost everyone he has encountered, from his wife to Kevin Spacey. Somehow, he has ended up imprisoned at the San Diego zoo.
