Utterance was formed in the summer of 2002. And since 2002 Utterance has gone leaps and bounds to make sure that the Pacific Northwest knows that Tacoma, WA will be heard. Utterance brings a refreshing yet familiar sound to the North West Metal seen with influences like Slayer, Metallica, Deftones, Suicidal Tendencies, Faith No more, Black Flag and Helmet, Utterance strives to create a sound that will impress their idols.
Utterance takes groove, and ambiance, and mixes it all together with raw thrash and aggression. Take heavy, sometimes funky bass playing by Dan Hatfield; crushing, eary guitar playing from Tracey Beardsley; soulful, gut-wrenching screams and spoken word from Zack Pearson, and back it all up with the even tempo, sometimes sporadic and jazzy drumming of Jerod Wallace you might be able to imagine the sound that Utterance has created.
In the last six years Utterance has accomplished many goals. They were featured on the Unleash the Freaks Motor Cross Tour and Hemp Fest, sold 1000 copies of there debut independently released CD, received a one year distribution deal with Hawino Records, were nominated for the Best Heavy Metal Hard Rock Act for the 2005 Seattle Weekly Music awards, have been played repeatedly on KFNK 104.9FMs Garage Monkey and KISW’s 99.9FM’s Loud and local, and were even asked to guest host the show’s that featured there music.
They have also had the privilege of playing at some of Seattle and Tacoma’s bigger venues like, The Showbox Market, Showbox Sodo, Hells Kitchen, El Corozon (formerly The Graceland),the Paramount and Cheney Stadium. Being able to share the stage with such bands as Skinlab, Nonpoint, Primer 55, Fozzy, Insolence and Zebra Head, Along with receiving sponsorship from Wired Energy drink and Dirtbag clothing, Utterance has proven the’ve worked hard to change not just the face of heavy metal, but rock music as a whole.
Utterance wishes to achieve national and international success, and show the world that Tacoma, Washington has a place on the map of Rock and Roll. With the release of their 2005 album, “Everything You Thought You Knew…†and the 2007 EP “Your Blood is Our Steak Sauceâ€, Utterance is hoping to take the next step in their musical career. This summer Utterance will be touring the West Coast and Pacific Northwest to further increase their fan base. We are currently looking for a distribution or record deal for a finished CD.
