the Wildwood Holler! is a modern folk string trio consisting of banjo, mandolin, and bass. Formed in 2002, the Holler! has played mostly in Northern Colorado's front range, but has performed as far east as Branson, MO, and as far west as the Oregon coast. Playing traditional instruments with a fresh original sound, the Holler! incorporates elements of their classically trained past as well as original material that makes the music unique. Michael, Josh, and Pierre all met at UNC in Greeley while studying opera, tuba, and jazz, respectively. Focusing on musical quality and originality rather than trying to copy the latest fads in jam-band-meets-bluegrass, the WH! has been honored with KUNCs Best New Artist of 2005 award, and is gaining momentum and popularity among discriminating music lovers in Colorado and beyond. Currently on hiatus from performing, Josh and Michael are awaiting the right conditions to bring the Wildwood Holler! back to a more active status. The current incarnation of Wildwood Holler! is called HandPicked Holler!. Handpicked is Holler!-style music with a festive twist. Michael remains lead singer/mandolin/guitar, but Josh holds down the bass on his tuba and squeezes the accordion in addition to his Holler! banjo picking and vocals. Joining the core WH! members are THE Brian Adams on lead guitar, dobro, and vocals, and Paul Maley on percussion and horns. Able to suit themselves as easily on a street corner acoustic style or late night electric, the HandPicked Holler! leaves nothing left to do but smile, smile smile.Wildwood Holler! began as a unique and original acoustic string trio (sometimes quartet) and has evolved into the hub of many other musical (and other) projects. Currently, Wildwood Holler! the string trio is on hiatus, requiring the right conditions to resurface, but likely will return to the Fort Collins music scene in the not-too-distant future. In the Meaintime, check out the HandPicked Holler!, Bourbon Toothpaste, and the Honey Gitters.
