WRATH RECORDS MANIFESTO
WHAT IS WRATH?
Wrath is a truly independent record label. A real one too there are no secret backers, no hidden agendas, no sleeping partners.
Wrath is also an approach to making and promoting music. No bullshit behind the records and no lame dullard nonsense on the records. No pissing about - our music does exactly what it's supposed to.
The current collective of Wrath artists mainly use the standard format of guitars and live drums, but that configuration does not necessarily dictate all things released on Wrath. There are common qualities that unite all of the artists on Wrath. It must be direct, upfront, bold, original, unique, insanely catchy, non-generic, timeless and most of all, mind-blowing. We believe in the power of pop music to greatly affect the listener everything released on Wrath will make you stop in your tracks and pay attention. There should be no such thing as background music Indeed, we are here to help eliminate the scourge of musical wallpaper.
WHERE IS WRATH?
If Wrath was a colossal squid, its body, brain, eyes and beak would stretch across the Leeds/Huddersfield areas of West Yorkshire, UK. However, its arms would reach out all over the UK and a couple of extra long feeding tentacles can even stretch abroad to more exotic climes.
WHY IS WRATH?
This is the perhaps most important question. The way of Wrath is one concerned primarily with operating at a level of integrity and honesty we feel has been lacking in the UK music industry. We were set up to combat cynicism and produce exceptional and memorable POP MUSIC at the same time simple as that. We advocate style AND content in equal measures, but with absolutely no concern for the fickle shackles of fashion and blatant engineering of popular culture for short-term gain - We are not arrogant enough to think the music-buying public are that stupid and therefore longevity is a key quality to anything were involved with. Amongst our ranks, we have the all the key skills needed so that if were not satisfied with any aspect of making and promoting music, well DO IT OURSELVES. Whats to stop us?
Partly through idealism, partly through bloody-mindedness, we are driven to reach out and network with the like-minded in the spirit of proactive co-operation. The idea is to build our own industry based on the principles of integrity and quality pop music. There are certainly enough of us out there to create a solid structure and a regular outlet for the music we love. We believe in growth by forging bonds and pooling resources. When we are forced to operate within the confines of music establishment (venues, press, radio, TV, the internet even), we do so with great pride and without compromise.
We feel that artists and musicians at a more humble level should be treated with the same respect as those who have broken through the barriers of success. We do not suffer the condescending nature of local vs national mentality. Music is ART, all art is to be taken seriously. Therefore, you will not find here any of the belittling terminology used in abundance by the many shysters out there. We prohibit the use of the following words/phrases in the context of music: Demo, Showcase, Signed, Unsigned, Battle of the bands etc etc. As most of us are artists ourselves, this philosophy of respect extends to the way we interact with other artists. Everything is done with mutual agreement and should be beneficial to all parties concerned.
Despite all this self-righteous ranting, we dont have a one of them odd company mission statements. If we did it would probably read 'Mission statement: avoid all mission statements'. The beauty about it all is that we can make it all up as we go along.
WHEN IS WRATH?
Its right NOW! Wrath has been in existence for approx 4 years and counting. Things are gradually on the up and there is no sign of decline. These things take time, you know and were prepared for a long haul.HOW IS WRATH?
That is entirely up to YOU. At the end of the day, we will do whatever the hell we want with our music and this label. However, no label is an island and the feedback and support of good music lovers is our food. Our well being as a label is as much to do with your support, as it is to do with our commitment to supplying you with a constant barrage of life-affirming music. At present, discerning patrons of Wrath know they are going to get a genuine slice of aural eccentricity put together by our own bare hands. We are happy with our little cottage industry, but would certainly not begrudge it expanding into some big bloated corporation. There is nothing wrong with success, especially if it is on our terms.
