Working on old Chevy trucks (see some of my blogs), playing and going to see music, kite flying (stunt and single line), working on my house and yard, helping other people work on their houses and yards, road trips, sports (baseball and football), eating Barbeque, Cajun and Mexican food, shooting pool, spending time at my friends' farms and ranches throughout Texas, reading, spending time with people I care about.
Whoever I end up meeting in the trials and trevails of life...
Magic by Bruce Springsteen and Washington Square Serenade by Steve Earle. Two of my favorite bands all time are sadly defunct: Morphine and Soul Coughing. Some of the best music to either dance or chill to. Along the same lines as the Texas singer songwriter theme is Bluegrass, which I can't get enough of no matter whose playing it from the masters like Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley, Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt to the new bands adding their own twist to it like the Weary Boys and Split Lip Rayfield (sadly also looking like the're defunct). Of course, doing what I do exposes me to all kinds of music most of which I enjoy. Stuff I grew up with that I will still admit to enjoying as a kind of guilty pleasure includes Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger, The Police, The Eurythmics, Marilion, Fish (it's not misspelled), Tom Petty and ZZ Top. Trance/Ambient/Electronic aritists I enjoy include Oszric Tentacles, Eat Static, Banco de Gaia, Future Sound of London, as well as Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and John Digweed. Never been to a rave, though I go out to see live music as much as possible. I also have a place in my musical heart for some Opera thanks to my father, who listened to it a lot when I was growing up. Lots of Puccinni, Bellini and Mozart. Jazz and Blues as well, John Coltraine, Robert Johnson, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.
In Bruges . Further cementing Martin McDonagh's status as one of the most skilled writers and directors of our time...
As far as I'm concerned, it's good for only one thing: watching live sporting events when you can't be there yourself. The Pink FLoyd lyric still rings true: "I've got 13 (modern day equivalent-300) channels of Sh*t on the TV to choose from..."
No Logo by Naomi Klein. Probably be writing about it when I finish.
