Dana Hemphill

Dana the daughter of a Pentecostal singing preacher named Dane Sherrod and a humble woman of God named Bertha Sherrod was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She began her singing ministry at the age of 3 years old. At that age she began to sing solo’s while standing on a box. At the age of 11 Dana got her first experience in the recording business while she was privileged to be in the National C.O.G.I.C. Sunshine Band which did a live recording in 1992 under the leadership of Dr. Iris Stevenson. During her teenage years she would be known through the C.O.G.I.C. churches of Wichita, Kansas as “the songbird”.At the ripe age of 21 God sent out a clarion call unto Dana saying “leave your family and move to the big city of Dallas, Texas and allow me to prepare you for a greater work”.Dana has been privileged to minister at many concerts, revivals, workshops and conferences. She has also lent her voice to an innumerable amount of talent shows and competitions. One singing competition that stood out the most took place in Dec. 2005 at the Kwanzaa Fest in Dallas, Texas, which is the biggest Kwanzaa Fest in the world. She garnered the cash grand prize & trophy after she floored the crowds with her explosive vocals and anointed performance. One of the judges was EMI recording artist Myron Butler who stated “Dana Hemphill is an anointed minstrel. Not only is she extremely gifted, but she possesses the Spirit of God. She is destined to do great exploits for the Kingdom of God”. Dana was called back to be apart of the competition again for the 2006 Kwanzaa Fest where she readily received second place among artist from all over the country. January 2007 Dana was respectfully nominated for “New Female Artist of the Year” at the “Texas Gospel Music Awards” without even having a recorded project. She has opened up and shared the stage with John P. Kee, Kim Burrell, Vickie Winans, Fred Hammond, Dr. Rance Allen, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Evelyne Turrentine-Agee, David & Tamela Mann, James “JJ” Hairston(Youthful Praise), Marvin “Coconut” Winans Jr., Myron Butler, Darius Brooks, Lamar Campbell and many, many more. “I look forward to seeing you in the industry” were the words of Kirk Franklin as he experienced her at a Coz Records Showcase. Dana has truly been anointed for a time such as this, as Kim Burrell bears witness at the Vickie Winans Rising Star Tour by saying “I truly appreciate the anointing on your life”. Dana is married to Min. Lewis H. Hemphill Jr. and they enjoy working for the Lord as a tag team ministry. They have recently formed there own record label “PRIME Music Group” under which she will record her live debut album in Dallas, TX. Grammy and Stellar Award Winner Myron Butler will produce the album.
