I'm 40 years old and it's been a hell of a ride getting here. I grew up in Germany, didn't know I had parents until I was 12 and was in trouble by the time I hit 17. About the only good thing about those years is that I got to see a lot of Europe. I moved to New Jersey at 17, talk about culture shock, and then did the first smart thing in life, joined the Marines, spent six years in, got to see a bit more of the world, got shot at during Desert Storm and thanked the Lord they had bad aim. Task Force Papa Bear was the shit, kicked ass and took names and at the end of the day everybody came home.
After that I came back home, went from one dead end job to the next until I did the second smart thing in life, go back to school. I became a programmer and now own 5% of a startup software company, well we're in year four, not so startup anymore.
I am my own worst critic and rarely acknowledge the good others see in me because I want to be better, a better friend, a better lover, a better anything. I know enough to know that there is so much I don't and have experienced enough to know that there is so much more I havn't. I'm shy and soft spoken and it is not an easy thing to gain my trust but once it is given is unshakable. I will drive 2 hours at three in the morning on a Tuesday to pick you up and take you home just because you're my friend and I believe that friendship is doing anything with nothing to gain.
