Oh yeah. Definitely love to laugh.
My name is Bryan Whitfield. I was conceived at a party as my father was making up with my mother. I was born at 11: 19 PM, April 23, 1985 in Rawlins, WY, 45 minutes into labor at Rawlins Memorial Hospital (-check it-). I was born again at Vacation Bible School at Park Place Baptist Church, Pearl, MS, my first day of attendance (the second day of VBS) the summer before 5th grade.
I am a very random person, and I wish I could write my profile as well as Crystal Sartin can, but I can't, so I won't.
I don't know what else to say about myself. Here is some random consciousness. For 10 months of the passed/past year I lived in a youth hostel in the "best city" in the world, or so it seems to have this facade for. It is a great city with many worlds, classes, races, sects, and industries within it. Once a very dirty city, and, currently, a very nice clean city, New York has gained a reputable reputation for its current efficiency & low-crime; New York City, is in fact the safest major city in the United States. Having once lived in a youth hostel, and worked several jobs in the city, I can boldly say that New York has a very poor professional quality within most every-day jobs. The Corporate World, on the other hand is completely different with a royalty, it seems, of wealth, budgets, and relaxing and luxurious lifestyle possibilities-which most of the city never sees, and even more might not ever see due to the corporate world's quest for quality cheap labor by outputting jobs in 2/3rd world countries. Give New York 20 years of this corporate greed, and it will be building hollow sky-scrapers. (I guess the Corporate CEO's & Boards could be referred to as Squirrels, as squirrels hollow out trees for shelter. The skyscrapers could be referred to as the Elm trees these squirrels so often hollow out.). My One True love of New York are its many layers of organized transportation that pulse safely the inhabitants of the city like hemoglobin-filled red blood-cells through arteries and veins of the city in forms of underground subways; grounded buses & Pedi cabs, or taxis, if you will; and airborne helicopters & airplanes. I love the public transportation system. It is one of the best in the World, in a way, but it definitely still has its moments. It is just really so amazing that they "got it together" in the first place; a true mark of human imagination, innovative ingenuity, actual invention & implementation, and independent freedom. It's truly & remarkably ambiguous. You never know who you're going to run into.
I lived at Jazz on the City hostel for about 8 months and I'm just going to say, "It got crazy 5 months ago.†I'm such a predictor--I predicted the very thing that happened (chaos), but I guess all the things that were consistent (from my perspective, as you will obviously see) was me. Everything changed, and for the worse it seems, let me tell ya.
Over here, I got to know pot-heads (1st); drunks, second; faggot escorts and strippers; and some money-hungry elders-not to mention the New York scragglers who walk in ever-so-often in the night looking for a place to stay or, better yet, dance for ya! Or sell something off the street for money! Life on this dot of the globe is extremely diverse; people from all over the world, and your neighborhood, drop by for a visit as they stop and see the marvelous sites and party all night--you never know what's going on in the lounge. Trying to maintain a narrow path with such a mind-blowing experience is a very intense thing to do. If you don't go there prepared, your path just might become your mind. As a dedicated Christian, I can say that mind-opening people, experiences, and situations are not purely evil as long as you lack participation and use the knowledge (of good & evil) you have gained toward the betterment of humanity & civilization as well as to respect people, experiences, and situations for what they are. We must stay true & pure. Because we do live in an imperfect world, I must say that it is "OK to look, but not to touch or participate."-It’s going to exist anyway, and your ignorance of it doesn’t make you any much better than you are; you must choose right.-- Example is a very important consideration for any professing Christian. Without works, faith is Dead- James. Through prayer and perseverance (Thanks God, & Thanks Jamie!), I maintained my dignity (between me and the Lord), learned a lot from the city of New York, and became driven from within when literally almost driven crazy by the surrounding world and its whirlwinning effects. I can humbly say that it made my mouth *impure on more than one account. (Out of the Mouth, the heart speaketh- Psalms. (Me-Impure? Nah... (sarcasm) (...for Every man has sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God- Romans), yeah, in my face.)) -*That says a lot.-
But, now, that I look back, I should never let things get to -me- because I don't own myself, as I believe that it is the Christ that owns my soul, actions, and right to my productivity; may it be very plentiful and precious in His sight, indeed.
Thanks for the many lessons learned, knowledge gained, and wisdom contained within this great marvelous, pulsing, neurotically schutz-down city of New York. B'klyn, Here I come!
After attaining a well-paying job through am elite temp. agency, I kissed living with "youth" Good-bye! I was offered my very own bedroom for $400 from a random, miraculous, one-night co-worker from Orchid: Caribbean and Soul food Cuisine restaurant located in Hell's KITCHEN. After walking the catwalk at a local college fashion show (B.C.), I decided that God had opened this opportunity for me to stay a bit longer in the city! & I took it. After working a 1.5 wks, it took another week to score another 2 days work at another company, so I took in a couple of auditions. Work was looking dry as the Labor Day weekend was approaching, and I made a judgment call that would forever change my life. Work was not calling, I was too over-stressed with free-time and awkward finances, and my voice coach from back home-Pearl, MS-was contacting me for an offer that I knew was foolish to turn down--but what do you do? Do I give up New York, because I am getting stale & stagnant from lack of occupation? Do I drop everything & just go, or do I stay a while and sit it out, finding busy-work in the mean-time?
What do I really want to do… Weigh the options…
When you have an apartment in NYC for under $500/month, an opportunity to make a lot of money (if you're persistent and patient), and a load of new, fresh & amazing, open-minded (Christian) friends, important business contacts, and knowledge of the field you so desperately want to pursue, YOU DON'T JUST GIVE IT UP!
Well, I did! I was offered a deal New York couldn't offer me; not conveniently, geographically close to close friends with weddings on the horizon (that I'd have to be in town for anyways!), and as engraving as this opportunity that was located in MS was. I bought a plane ticket, sold my new mattress the night before the flight, and caught a ride from some of my amazing friends to the airport. I barely had enough money to get home and survived on pimento-and-cheese sandwiches for days-on-end until I finally got a few jobs waiting tables! -an important skill in NYC- I will be back, and before long!
I am currently residing in Mississippi, where I am concentrating on vocal performance in the classical genre, and honing my skills as a "professional server" as I can use both of these skills to my benefit back "home" in New York City.
