The Detours were created in the depths of East Kilbride. The band has been around for a few years but the current, and most solid, line-up has been writing, rehearsing and gigging since the summer of 2006.
We are a heavy rock band with touches of metal and a modern twist. Each song has its own presence and personality mixed with energy and excitement.
The Past
Chris, Michael and Ross have known each other from as far back as they can remember. They came together musically in 2003 to form The Detours after playing in a few poor bands with the view of doing something original and fun. Danny saw The Detours play a gig at the Cathouse; he liked them so much that after the gig he asked if he could join the band as the singer. Just after Danny joining, the bass player left. Luckily Chris knew Ally through his sister, and soon enough Ally was drafted in to complete the line-up.
The Detours have played many gigs in and around the East Kilbride and Glasgow area. With the likes of the Cathouse, Rockers, Barfly and Box in Glasgow, and the Key Youth Centre, Crystals and the Westwood church in East Kilbride. The band has ventured outside the local scene to play in surrounding areas such as the @home centre in Airdrie and the Ark in Ayr to name a few.
The Present
There are WebPages set up for the band within the myspace and bebo communities, with the myspace page having more than one thousand friends, and more than five and a half thousand hits.
The bands most recent demo was recorded at the Riverside Studio with Duncan Cameron mixing and mastering it. As well as the demo being on sale in CD format, the band has taken the leap into the digital world by releasing it on iTunes and other digital download market places.
The Detours have had their fair share in the media spotlight with plenty of articles and interviews in the local papers and also having their songs brought to the masses, with the internet radio station TotalRock Radio playing a few of their tracks on air, receiving positive and promising feedback.
One of the biggest achievements to date is winning Rig Rock 07 – a battle of the bands competition hosted by Duncanrig Secondary School. The Detours fought off competition from seven other bands to be crowned winners.
“The youngsters have had a successful year so far and are proud winners of Rig Rock 2007. They won after judges were impressed with the musical creativity and standard of musicianship they displayed.â€
