A DAY AT THE RACES: UNASHAMEDLY POP!

About Me

'SOME SONGS' E.P AVAILABLE FREE NOW!!!
A DAY AT THE RACES
Hello, we are A Day At The Races...
We're from the thriving music scene of Bristol, joining the ranks of such greats as the Wurzels and.. others, possibly
We've been playing our stuff since 2005 when the band consisted of 4 members, of which only 2 remain. We've been through 4 drummers, 4 bassists, 2 lead guitatists and 2 keyboardists to find our current formula with which we hope to take over the world, or at least become one-hit wonders with various addictions and several failed marriages.
Our songwriting and musical abilities as a band have developed and grown into our own signature sound and style, incorporating elements of post-punk, ska and pop whilst drawing heavily on the mod scene of the 60's. The realist nature of the lyrics means everyone can find at least one song to relate to.

In 2007, we recorded our first CD, the 5 track E.P. 'The Thick Of it' which was hastily recorded in a mate's back room with only 2 of the band members actually contributing to the recording process. Due to the overall 'shitness' of this record, it was quickly followed by the brand new demo CD 'Some Songs', which is now available to download from this very page, or come along to a gig and grab a free copy on disc.
We are held in high regard as a good live act, so make sure you come to a gig near you, not just to hear some great new music, but have a dance, a laugh, bit of underage drinking and if you're lucky, an infection from a member of the band.

We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds; metal, punk, ska, post-rock, pop, mod, indie etc. which amalgamates with sexy results. Many people have drawn musical comparisons to bands as prominent as The Fratellis, The Jam and The Libertines.
So if you're a fan of any of the Bands above or just want to increase your indie-cool by telling your mates you like an unsigned band (although this will make you a twat), we urge you to come to a gig near you and download our songs - They slip right into your iPod!
We've played many gigs since our inception, including prestigious slots at;
Headlining Filthy MacNasty's, London

The Rhythm Factory, London.

Headlining The Fleece & Firkin in Bristol.

Thekla as part of Bristol Harbour festival.

Supporting the hotly tipped Yeasayer at the Bristol Carling Academy
Regular gigs at:
The Louisiana
The Cooler
The Croft
St. James' Wine Vaults

We're always up for gigging anywhere, any time, so drop us a line if you want us to play for you - house parties, charity events, whatever.. we draw the line at weddings and bar mitzvahs
