Whilst listening to some of London's pirate radio stations (ie Upfront 99.3..) Bryan was enchanted by the Garage sounds of Steve Gurley, Dem 2, Doolally, Da Click, and other garage mainstays. Being 13 years old, raves were not an option...So bedroom listening spawned a huge interest and desire to produce tunes and DJ.At 15 years old, armed with a killer summer job as an ice cream man, Spydogen (aka Bryan Longhurst) decided to blow his hard earned cash on a pair of Gemini XL500s and a 10 year old Numark mixer. With a record collection that moved from Garage, to Jungle, House, Hard House, Hard Trance, and some old skool Breaks, there seemed to be no area that he wished to leave out of the mixer. After years of eclectic 'spakking' on the decks, the focus soon took new life when he attended 'Legends of the Dark Black' @ Plymouth's notorious Dance Academy.
Here, the sounds of Doc Scott, Bad Company, Ed Rush and Optical, and Bristol's DJ Dazee, fully stamped a love of Drum n Bass in all forms.Whilst this was happening; Bryan got introduced to a new (at the time) software program called 'Reason'. Blown away by the capabilities of this incredible new toy...work began on shaping a sound and identity through his music.Nearly 10 years on, things have evolved...As a DJ; Bryan's skills have been enjoyed at many nights in Bristol (where he currently resides), Plymouth and Exeter. With residencies at Sub Heavy in Plymouth and Getsuei and Agro in Bristol, Bryan is a busy man. With superb selection and mixing skills, his sets are loaded with huge tunes, big tunes, chilled tunes, and a focus on vocal niceness.DJs he has supported include MALA DMZ, Skream, Benga, N-Type, MRK1, Geeneus. In the studio, Spydogen has been utilising the complimentary production aesthetic that Dubstep promotes into his current music. Trying to incorporate raw synth sounds with solid grooved beats to create a myriad of tracks that range from dancefloor to bedroom-side...with many a work in progress.Bryan is also in his final year of a Creative Music Technology degree @ Bath Spa University. He has worked as a Live Sound Engineer for Sheila Chandra (Real World Records), and recently mixed and mastered bristol band 'Jagged''s debut album "Autumn Fall" which is released on Rebco records.
