The Jazz Trio offers repertoire including the American standards, Latin, Modern Jazz, and original material. The Groove Trio is similar to the Jazz Trio but with a "groovy" inspired sound of Scott on Fender bass, reminiscent of the 60's and 70's. These trios are often augmented by other musicians to create larger ensemble textures. Jazzmango features guitarist John LaBarbera and percussionist Yousif Sheronick, performing Brazilian and Mediterranean inspired music. They were featured entertainment at last year's U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. In addition to his numerous jazz outlets, Scott also performs with the original acid folk/acoustic rock band Yucca Flats(Mapleshade/Wildchild Records), Ginetta's Vendetta, Riverside Orchestra, Orchestra of the Bronx, New Jersey Verismo Opera Orchestra, Artemis Chamber Ensemble, SEM Ensemble, etc. - as well as Off-Broadway Musicals: Wanda's World and Mud Donahue & Son.- - - - -H I S T O R Y . . .Scott was born and raised in Dickinson, North Dakota and is the youngest of six sibling musicians. Growing up in such a musical family was both the ignition and fuel for Scott's musical journey. He is forever grateful and indebted to each member of his family as mentors and role models. This musical family sprouted from the inspiration and instruction of their father, who was the high school band director, and their mother's persistence and dedication to their education. All of the Thorntons are still professionally involved in music performance and music education. Scott studied Horn Performance at the University of Iowa, earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Minnesota, and completed his Masters degree in Conducting from the University of Connecticut.
