Jesper Christiansen started out working in one of Soho's independent record stores just over 3 years ago, from where he got involved in the 51 Lex record label, putting out Broken Beats combined with Afro Beat. Having a disconcerning ear for new music across genres and being a hard-core record collector (especially 60's & 70's Jazz) has earned him much respect and he's now moved onto working with the Wah Wah 45's label as well as running the radio promotions for BBE Records.
As a DJ, his strengh lies in his constant driving force to seek out and get his hands on the latest cutting edge tunes, as well as rediscoverring forgotten Jazz gems from the past. Jesper Christiansen started out running independent club nights across London over 5 years ago in venues such as the former The Retreat, ANAM and The Cube. He has also been involved in a number of one-off events, such as playing the Groove Amada after-party at Plan B, aswell as other venues like Plastic People and Cargo. Currently Jesper is part of the club night Wah Wah Live @ Cargo as a resident DJ together with Dom Servini and Simon Goss as well as London's only Jazz club night 'Jazzin''. He also running the BBE weekly Tuesday sessions at the Market Place alongside Kyri (R2 Records)
On the back of Jesper's previous compilation, 'Soul Hop and Broken Jazz' he recently compiled an exclusive mix-tape of independent leftfield 'Nu Soul meets Jazz' for Alex Chase's Itch FM radio show.
Currently, he has just finished his mix for Red Bull Music Academy - digging deep into vaults of Brazilian Jazz from the sixties and seventies for some highly rare and hard-to-find gems. This mix was broadcasted the very beginning of August on Red Bull Music Academy Radio.
Most recently, Jesper Christiansen has started presenting the BBE Radio Show on Ministry Of Sound radio broadcasted every Sunday from 16.00-18.00 GMT. The show is an eclectic mix of new music as well as old gems from the dusty crates. As a feature on most of the shows, Jesper presents an exclusive guest mix from a DJ/ producer from around the world.
