About Me
Cheeky TikaMartika appeared after teen girls like Tiffany and Debbie Gibson returned adolescent bubblegum to the pop charts. Martika was born as Marta Marrero in Whittier, CA, on May 18, 1969. Her parents were originally from Cuba; however, they left the country during a revolution. Raised in California, Martika started acting before launching a recording career, appearing in the film version of Annie in 1982 and on the TV series Kids Incorporated from 1984 to 1986. In 1988, her first single, "More Than You Know," landed on the American charts; a year later, its follow-up, "Toy Soldiers," was number one in the U.S. for two weeks. Martika's self-titled debut album was also released in 1989. On her second LP, 1991's Martika's Kitchen, she received songwriting assistance from Prince, to whom she was also briefly romantically linked. "Love...thy will be done" was number one in many countries and ten in the U.S. Martika returned to television by joining the cast of Wiseguy and a movie named "Footstep". In 1999, she recorded "The Happy Song." and she worked for a venezuelan group "Los amigos invisibles" in a song called "Si estuvieras aqui". A lot of her hits are included in several 80´s compilations.
she's formed a duo now (July 2003) with this amazing musician called Michael Mozart and it's called Oppera. Go to http://www.Oppera.net
it's a cross between the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Thin Lizzy.
The Cd entitled "Violince" will be realeased in early summer 2003, It is a mixture of classical influences such as the likes of Mozart, Vivaldi, and Paganini, and classical rock romp matching the best of Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin, with the pomposity of Queen and The Beatles thrown in for good measure. Some of the songs tittles on the Cd are "That's just the way it is", "Upside Down", "Liar", "Misery", "Train comes 'round" and "Say Anything" wich is the first single. They have also been doing the pre-production for the "Say Anything" Video which is scheduled to begin shooting on July 14 th. In the midst of all that, they are already working on the live show, which will take them around the world over the course of the next two years. They plan to be in full- fledged rehearsal by the end of July. There are magazines and TV spots in the making.
