Hailing from Springfield, Illinois, Kept is a four piece metal band with a variety of influences
( Deftones-Tool-Helmet-Chevelle-Korn -Taproot for a few )Focusing on the melodic , clever hooks , dynamic tempo changes, and sing-able choruses best describe our style. Formed in 2003 -kept consist of Joel Souther on Vox, John Findlay on drums, Russell Brown on bass, and Joe Tury on guitar." We formed this line-up in late 2003. We'd been trying for about two years, Joe and I (Joel) , to get a good project going. It's hard to get the right mix of people to work with and create music with. You either get good players with dated ideas or bad players with good ideas. Joe and I knew that we didn't want to go the screaming ,anger route. On my suggestion, we decided we liked to try a "Tool meets Helmet" concept. Of course we have a variety of influences in our songs and very rarely do we get music that sounds like Tool or Helmet or whoever, but that's the way we like it. We tend to write about personal experiences so that the songs have meaning, not just mindless ranting that have the listener wondering where we are coming from. Hopefully everyone can relate to something that they hear us play; it makes this job of a band more enjoyable if they do."
