About Me

Oscar as David and Florent. Here is a way to begin with. Don't look for an anagram, there is none. Oscar is the name of an old syn- thethizer, in the seventies. Which is not unsignificant either when listening to the vintage and synthetic colours of their creations.
David HACHOUR and Florent SABATON first met on a bi-cross. They are twelve years old, and share the same neighbourhood in a small city closed to Paris.
Later, Florent is attending a cursus of accounting studies, as well as playing instruments : guitar, bass and harmonica. After playing with various groups, he buys his first compu- ter and begins composing by himself, under the inffluence of techno, as well as funk music.
David dives into hip hop culture. He buys turntables and becomes a DJ. He organizes parties, participates contests of graffiti, and becomes a bi-cross champion (competition in Bercy). Then at twenty, comes the revelation, on the occasion of a long stay in London. David discovers electronic music. We are in 1990. It's new. All is to create in this field.Suddenly, he turns off bicycle, graffiti and hip hop music, and devotes himself to the house music. We are in 1990. It's new. All is to create in this field.
In 1998, David and Florent decide to join their talents and play music together. Florent plays the bass, knows perfectly well the machines from now on, and has a solid techni- cal and instrumental knowledge. David, as to him, comes along with his musical cul- ture...
They create OSCAR and surround themselves with musicians : Jerôme LECAÃLLETEL, guitar, Cédric BLIN, bass, and later, a friend from childhood : Alexandre DESTREZ, key- boards (St Germain, Shazz, Overhead). Their first maxi, Brazil 2030, comes out in 1999 under the label Well Tune, a subdivision of Artefact. Within one year and a half, 4 of them come out. Quite soon, Jérôme MESTRE, their producer at the time, proposes them to create their own label. They borrow money, the Denote Recors label is created in 2001. Since then, OSCAR never stops : some twenty maxis, as many participations to compils, the album "Duologic", (an hybrid project between hip hop and house) in colla- boration with Dysh, and their first album "Parisian Soul" (Denote records/Nocturne) which comes out in february 2003 is going on with a nice carreer (licensed in Japan, Australia). For now, they are preparing their second album, which is to come out in spring 2004.
If until now, the dominant colour was a detonant coktail of house, funk and brazil music which gave us desire for dancing, OSCAR seems to be wanting to lead us to more syn- thetic tones, in which electro is melted to the groove of the basses. Oscar, the old syn- the, is not so far any longer. And David and Florent, in good old chaps, are going on together with their common quest of a music which looks like them.
