About Me

“Beautiful – and indeed very radio friendly” - BBC Radio Scotland “Don’t miss this rising star” - Edinburgh Evening News Singer-songwriter James Lowe isn’t used to having a ‘typical day’ or doing things the “normal way” any more. In 2007, disillusioned with his 9-5 lifestyle, he sold his flat in Edinburgh, quit his day job at a local radio station (which had been sold off to a bigger corporation) and recorded his debut album ‘Radio Friendly’ – the vintage feel of the songs inspired by the notion of a time before playlists, formats ... and corporate takeovers! After the album launch, rather than stick around to promote the album with a tour, he took off round Europe in his new home - a 1988 VW campervan - and pretty much vanished from the music scene, taking time to just “switch on and tune out…” He spent the next 12 months freewheeling... until one sunny day he drove into a little fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife and decided to drop anchor. The coastal air, home comforts and sea views did wonders for his musical creativity and before long James hit the road again – finally – to promote his debut album. The ‘Radio Friendly’ tour was the outward-facing culmination - and celebration - of that time spent just discovering what is important for the inner self. It seems to be an appropriate title for the record and the tour - James has performed live for Edinburgh city stations Forth One and Forth 2 as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; he also hit the airwaves on RUV (the Icelandic equivalent of the BBC) while in Reykjavik to perform at the capital's Cafe Rosenberg. He has been playlisted across seven stations in the French Alps, has done live sessions for Northsound 1 in Aberdeen and has also featured on daytime BBC radio, playing live tracks for the Radio Scotland “Radio Café”. James also won support from the people behind T in the Park and Scotland’s legendary music venue King Tuts in Glasgow, who invited him to open the show for award winning Aussie musician Josh Pyke on the last day of the tour. Afterwards, happy but in need of a rest, James has retreated back into his hermit crab cave, ready to write some more songs...
