What’s in a name? Well when the name is Faruq Tauheed the answer simply put is Talent. For the past decade and then some Faruq has shone his talent on thousands of captivated audiences and fans alike, and the reviews have been nothing less than scintillating. Faruq ability to embrace and enrich such a wide variety of characters is nothing less exceptional and profound. Whether it is a pimp or military officer, a student in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement or a cook whose wife is expecting Faruq’s commitment to honesty and integrity is evident in every line and action. He has the ability and charisma to take on characters whether it is on stage or screen. In a nutshell this man is not only versatile but extremely gifted, and it is obvious it anyone who has seen just one of his performances.Faruq’s ascension to artistic nobility began as a young teen when he joined the historic and world renowned Freedom Theatre. Little did anyone know that this would be a love affair that would birth many magnificent performances. His instructors seeing a fire and desire in his eyes rewarded this passion by promoting him to their Intensive Training Program. Faruq would take the jewels left with him and take them to the Creative and Performing Arts High School in Philadelphia where is was the only freshman allowed to tour with school plays. During this period Faruq was also cast in the critically acclaimed stage production of “Cooley High†at Freedom Theatre. His mesmerizing performance as Cochise is still talked about to this very day, almost a decade later. After blazing trails in Philly it was time for Faruq to step up to a different arena and lay down more jewels for audiences to appreciate. Faruq upon getting accepted to Marymount Manhattan College in New York City would continue to expound on the things he acquired while studying in Philly. Within his first year in NYC Faruq would be cast as Willie in the ABC made for television movie “Selma, Lord, Selma†depicting Dr. Martin Luther King’s march from Selma to Montgomery. Soon afterward he would receive a full scholarship to study abroad at the British American Dramatic Academy. While there Faruq would land the lead in Shakespeare’s The Tempest as Prospero. Once he graduated from Marymount Manhattan there was one more place for Faruq to lay his seed, and that would be Los Angeles. Just like Philadelphia and New York before hand Los Angeles would prove to be a very beneficial to his career as an artist and actor. In his few short years in Los Angeles Faruq has been seen in such Hollywood staples such as “Cold Caseâ€, “The Bernie Mac Showâ€, “The Shield†as well as “Fastlaneâ€, “The Kingpinâ€, “The Parkers†and “Strong Medicineâ€. While in L.A. he would not abandon his stage roots at all as evident by his critically acclaimed performance as Cephus Miles in the Samm Art-Williams play “Homeâ€. Faruq can currently be scene on DirecTV Channel 101 on the Championship Gaming Series.With a name like Faruq which means “One who can distinguish truth from falsehood†and Tauheed “All knowing of Godâ€, it is no marvel why he has been able to continuosly shine and prosper at all the things he has been able to put his hands on.
