Decoy Death Trap

About Me

Biography:
Decoy Death Trap, as a band, helps to accentuate the fact that the metal genre doesn't necessarily have to refer to unwanted negativity and pessimism in the views of the world today. Throughout the band's history, there have always been hardships to face but they quickly got through them making the music they loved and helping spread their message across to the local public. The energy that surrounds this band is so powerful and there's no listening to their songs without fully enjoying it in whatever way possible: headbanging, an approving nod, or those synchronized taps of the feet in tune to their optimistic appeal to the listener. They hope to encourage budding young musicians to promote a more optimistic message, and to realize that its better to stand out than to fit in. There is a positive message in the band and that's what makes them different. That's what makes them Decoy Death Trap.
Forming on a common interest in starting something new and different in the scene, Sary, Jeevan and Josh formed the band early summer of 2005 after meeting each other at a local show. By the year's end, they had finalized their lineup with Jeevan's younger brother Mathew on bass, and Paolo, a close friend of Jeevan, on (second) guitars.
In the two years that would be the band's lifespan, the band came up with as many songs as possible, some which would be eventually released in their "Demo 2006" mini-CD. Decoy Death Trap also performed at a couple of live shows, the most memorable being the sold-out Assembly 6 show (in which the infamous hole-in-the-ceiling incident happened during their set.) The band's progress was slowed down due to educational priorities, as well as a few lineup changes. By their last few months active, Decoy Death Trap had gained a strong following in the local scene and was known for their unique take on metal, along with their optimistic and honest lyrics. Their energetic live performances also won over many fans, and would inspire and influence future bands in the scene.
The band would eventually become inactive after their farewell gig due to Sary and Jeevan leaving Dubai for extended education. However, the band did become active during the summer of 2008 and performed a last-minute suprise set at a local show. The band hopes to release more songs in the future and maybe even reform one day.

"Inspired by the emergence of metalcore, Dubai band Decoy Death Trap entered the scene by playing it to the bone – raw power, raw sound, raw energy. Comparisons were drawn at the release of their 3-song online demo. Some cited Hatebreed, some cited Killswitch Engage. But such comparisons were only made possible with DDT’s dedication to a sound that raised them above the hordes of underground hopefuls – tight, precise and brimming with ambition."
